i had the same problem as you and i don't think origin and the new program will work if they are both downloaded, i deleted origin and all my games and just redownload the new launcher and it seemed to work
Origin and EA Desktop will work on the same system without problems, just not at the same time.
I would strongly suggest not to delete Origin just yet. EA Desktop is still an early Beta with many functions not working or not implanted yet.
Many games are missing as well.
I gave up on it.. it wont open
Same I'm getting the same error, tried re-installing with Origin closed, still getting the error message.
So I guess I won't be trying out the beta anytime soon
No idea what is causing the issue as it doesn't give any clues, just some non-descript error message that it's broken
