I'm still using Origin

I'm still using Origin as it still works for me. I've heard so many bad things about players being unable to play their legally purchased games on the new EA app. So much in fact that I don't want to change to the new app. I will keep using Origin until it is no longer usable. I don't get it why a perfectly working software must be replaced with a broken mess that locks you out of your games.

  • How did you go about still using this? I'm getting a 404 error with any game I'm trying to play right now

  • This 404 thing is a weekly even now on EA App.

Its been like that since Origin was "shut down". 404 every week this happens and then you jsut have to wait until someone do somehting at the backend.

  • Ok I take my reply back. The app is a broken mess for me as well. Sometimes when I start it, all the games belonging to the Battlefield and Star Wars Battlefront series are gone from my library and their store pages have gone missing too. When I open the store page it just says "this game is no longer available for purchase in our catalog".

And yet occasionally my game library is restored and all my games are all available to play. It does this completely randomly. There's no any kind of logic or pattern here. It's like the EA app has a mind on its own and only decides to work when it feels like it.

If anybody can figure out how to get Origin working again, please let us know. I can't even install the EA app.

  • If you can keep using Origin, don't switch to the EA app. It's no longer possible to go back to Origin if you uninstall it and you'll be forced to use the new app.

As you obviously already know, the new app has a lot of issues, including not being able to invite friends anymore in certain games. I've also had issues where it would tell me that I have to purchase a game that I already own. For a friend of mine, it was showing his entire library as empty.

I regret uninstalling Origin. At least it was more functional.

  • @Arilena This is the price we pay for digital distribution. We have no recourse and EA has no incentive to do anything about it.

At this point, even if they fixed the EA app, I wouldn't feel comfortable buying any more EA products. I've been locked out of my EA content for three weeks now and EA couldn't give a crap. Who's to say the next time it happens (and there WILL be a next time), it won't be three months or even years?

@virtualbalboa_gg I believe they are mostly the price we pay for DRM content, or so they would say.

I am sorry you can't even access your games. Maybe there is some small chance they will fix some of these issues once a new version of the app comes out... or break it even more. Either way, being locked out of the games you already paid for and not being able to do anything about it is certainly not an incentive to buy more of their games.

  • What really sucks is that I was just accepted into the upcoming Skate beta starting May 9th. But if I can't install the EA Desktop App, I can't play it.

Also, even if EA does decide the PC side of their business is worthy and they repair the app, who's to say they won't break it even further down the road?

Heck, I can see a world where a new version gets pushed out in the background and anybody running a VPN during this hidden update gets their EA account banned for months. If people can't even install the app in the first place, this scenario doesn't seem too far off.

From now on I think the only EA games I'll play will be the free games. Why would I give money to a company that is actively hostile to me?
