In order to log in to the EA app, you must be online. Once you're logged in, you have the option to set the app to offline and play the games that are supported in offline mode.
That doesn’t help if you can’t connect to the internet. The game should be playable at all times whether there is connection or not

The good that will do. This has been a problem with the EA app since it launched. We've been reporting this frustration for literal years. At this point, if I can't get EA games in Steam, I'm not buying/playing them. Power to the players!

So I take it that this mean that when EA go out of business and their servers go offline, because people abandon it for all the other gaming platforms on which the offline mode is for when you actually are offline (I don't know whether to laugh or cry over EA offline mode requiring an internet connection), that all our games will be unplayable then?
