the sims 4 will not launch

Under the EA application, my library of installed games show Sims3, Sims Medival, and Sims 4. However, Sims 4 is showing as a Steam game and not the original Origin installed Sims 4 game. All three games will launch when online. However, the Sims 4 game will only play ONLINE via Steam. When Sims 4 launches online, it shows it with a NEW GAME option only, and not a RESUME option.  BEFORE installing Steam on my laptop, all three games played online AND offline via Origin/EA apps. 

How do I get the Sims 4 game to play OFFLINE when there is no internet connection available? It appears that the Steam Sims 4 game has replaced the originally installed Sims 4 game. I used the original disc from 2014 to reinstall Origin which then updated EA app, and it then appears to have re-installed Sims 4 from the original disc. This did not resolve the issue.

Looking for any guidance from others. Thanks in advance. 

BTW - Steam support is of no help since this is not a Steam game.
