Automatic updates disabled but the game updates anyways

Game version: 1.108.329
can anyone explain to me why the EA app keeps AUTOMATICALLY installing updates now despite me having unchecked that? it did it twice now

Despite my having disabled automatic updates and "Enable Background Downloads'" the EA app forced the 1.108.289  and 1.108.318 patches. The entire situation is sketchy, invasive, and harmful.

However, my current theory is that it may have to do with the fact that the Sims 4 keeps pushing hotfix updates. Anyways, that's just a theory. One would think the patches would queue.

My game hasn't updated to the most recent patch (1.108.329). The app is notifying me that an update is needed (as it usually does before I go offline). I play a modded game and am well used to not updating for weeks at a time. To my knowledge, I have never noticed this happening before the recent updates. The EA app is a curse.

Still an issue.  Still invasive and sketchy.  And when you go offline to prevent/stop the update, you can't launch the game.
