i encountered this error myself and over the course of a couple of days the only thing I found that worked was Downloads: GenPatcher - Legionnaire Generals. It basically patches the game for you. This is after I asked EA for help and did numerous other things. (I don't think EA cares, I didn't pay the customer service micro transaction)
