Summarize your bug I changed the name of my game folder, and I had 3 games installed on my external drive. The name went from Origin Games to EA Games, so I could have parity with the internal drive. Instead now I am being forced to download games all over again, when I have them installed already.
How often does the bug occur? Every time (100%)
Steps: How can we find the bug ourselves? Try to locate install location, gives no option
What happens when the bug occurs? No option except download.
What do you expect to see? An option to locate game files.

Really don't feel like re-downloading FIFA, Sims 4, and NFS Heat.

  • Hello you all,

i find something working (Just tried now with a BFV installation) !

You redownload the game normally BUT you must select the path where your game is already Installed. (The exact same path and exact names)

Once you've done this, EA Play will be stuck at download. And you won't be able to run the game yet.

I just stop the application, then restart, THEN clear the cache of the EA desktop App. => top right corner 3 small lignes > Help > Clear Cache (not sur of the name in english but now it's the 4th)

AND finally it's working fine, EA play see my installation and i can run the game

  • Download game to same path the game is in. Cancel download. Manage -> Repair - Done

    tl;dr Download -> Cancel download -> Manage -> Repair

  • edit to clarify: this is in response to @Skrimnal

This worked, thank you. In fact, it was even simpler because after I set the download location to the folder with my existing game files, the EA app automatically went through a "Preparing" step and recognized the game files were already present. Didn't have to download a thing.

  • Hi I from Taiwan .

    1.windows+R

    2.enter regedit

    3.HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\EA Games\Battlefield V/1/2042

    4.Change Install Dir

    hope you success

  • Cheers, I moved Dead Space to my SSD and managed to fix the app wanting to redownload it using this method.

  • "Download game to same path the game is in. Cancel download. (...)"

People dont do that. It will delete your current downloaded content. I lost in this way 130GB of data right now (i have very low internet speed so thank you!).

  • I tried that after copying my files on SSD, but I don't get the option to cancel, manage & repair. When I cancel the download, then it's just gone & EA App tells me to re-download.

    So frustrating
