EA App - Downloading "Preparing" bug

I'm trying to download both Battlefield 4 and The SIms 4, both doesn't download at all. It says "Preparing" for a while and always results in the error message saying "There's a problem With your download - Something went wrong during your download. Give us a few minutes, then try again.". My conclusion is that this is an app-wide issue and not binded to a specific game.

What I've tried to do to resolve the issue:

- Clear cache

- Change installation location (different drives)

- Reinstall EA App from scratch (with restart between)

- Reinstall DirectX
- Reinstall Microsoft Visual C++

- Run as Administrator

- Restart PC

- Restart router

What am I missing? Is there a port I should port forward? Is there a firewall post that I should know about and allow?
If it help, I'm running this on a Windows 11 machine with the latest stable updates installed, including drivers.

I've seen a lot of people have this issue and there's no solution for it... Please EA, help me to resolve this!

  • Hey everyone!

I think I've found something very interesting regarding this extraordinary "bug" EA App having... Hear me out!

Every game I'm trying to download is marked with the "Play"-emblem on the top left corner of the game thumbnail, they are stuck in "Preparing" phase and ends up with en error, even if you have bought this game separatly from EA Play. However, if I select an EA Play game I don't have purchased it will tell me to subscribe to EA Play, something is working... Ironic. If I try to download and install a game I have in my library but is excluded from EA Play, it will download.

So the problem here is guys, EA want us all to subscrube to their EA Play subscription to be able to play our games we have paid for!

This will be hard to get from EA helpdesk to "unlock" my games, good luck out there fellas! 🙂

  • Guess what, a clean reinstall of Windows did..... not solved the issue! Maybe EA is dead now? No updates, no solutions, no support.

It seems it only applies to some games though.

For example, I downloaded FIFA 19 and 20 yesterday, all good. I am currently downloading 21, all good.

It's just FIFA 22 for me that won't download no-matter-what.

EDIT: By the way, if you perhaps happen to have an old copy of the game stored somewhere (I, for example, had a copy of the FIFA 22 folder updated to TU 3), it may be worth trying to use it and "repair" it.

It looks like it's working for me this way.

  • This happens to all games I'm trying to download and install, all from SimCity and Sims 4 to Battlefield 3 and 4. The only way (it seems) for me to get the game files to let EA validate and repair is to torrent download the games. I don't think the publishers or developers of the games are happy with that kind of solution but it's maybe the only way it will work properly..?!

Unfortunately I can't try to download FIFA due to I don't have an active EA Play subscription, as you can imagine I don't want a subscription for something that doesn't work. However, it seems to work for my brother and he have an active EA Play subscription... So perhaps this is an account issue..?

  • @좀 많은 것 같은데 me too. I tried everything that I can do even pc format. But I cannot download any sims& packs.

Sad but almost true, I found out.

Either you have a backup copy of the game somewhere (which you can then repair to finally have your game available again) or you're forced to get it by other means (and then repair/update as needed).

Sad that nobody from EA dared reply either to your or to my thread about it.
