EA App wants me to Redownload ALL my installed games in order to play them?

Product: The EA app
Platform:PC
Error Report ID (learn how to create an Error Report ID in the sticky post)
Which client functionality are you experiencing this bug with? Game Hub
When did this happen? (dd.mm.yy hh:mm) 13/03/23 18:26
Summarize your bug EA App can't find my already downloaded and installed games, wants me to redownload and install ALL of them in order to launch the games.
How often does the bug occur? Every time (100%)
Steps: How can we find the bug ourselves? I don't know, open Origin, accept the prompt to switch to EA App, then wait a day or two for the software to throw a fit? I was able to launch my existing games from the EA App yesterday, but suddenly the software doesn't know how to find them, and I can't find a way to relink them without redownloading everything, which would be a total pain and I really don't want to have to do that!
What happens when the bug occurs? The games appear in my library but when I click on them to try to launch them, I'm brought to a product page with a Download button
What do you expect to see? Some way to play the games already installed on my computer without having to redownload them all?

I'm truly baffled by this one guys, I was able to launch games from the EA App yesterday, I've checked and the program files are still in place in the Origin Games folder they were originally downloaded to, the program just seems to have suddenly forgotten how to find ANY of them?

EDIT: upon realising that i couldn't even launch the games through their .exe's without the EA app throwing an "access" error, I contacted customer support. Eventually fixed the problem by trying to uninstall the ea app, the uninstaller getting stuck on the initiating phase, doing a clean pc boot to try to get around that, trying to uninstall again this time in clean boot mode, windows telling me the uninstaller was successful and the program being removed from the program list, but weirdly still actually being installed on the computer? then rebooting with services renabled.

Now the EA App knows where my games are and will let me launch them. Glad to have my problem solved but kinda concerned by how it's apparently impossible to uninstall this piece of software?

  • Uninstalling and reinstalling the EA App was able to switch my games from download to playable.

  • I had a similar problem where the EA app was telling me to redownload the game and saying I didn’t have access. I fixed it by restarting my computer.
