EA App won't open

Coming back to the Sims community after a few years off. Opened origin and have been forced to download the EA App to play. The EA App wont even open on my mac. The icon bounces and does nothing. Tried to speak with EA Live Chat, who suggested (and I kid you not) that I try downloading the EA App... what? 

Then suggested I download NVIDIA. Sorry, but why do I need to go through all of this to play a game I have spent hundreds of dollars on? Why is it my responsibility to fix this? 

Anyway. My unarchiver won't open the NVIDIA app so I am at a complete loss of what to do now.
