I was getting this same crash upon installation, but for a different reason.
I set my desktop to read-only because I REALLY hate when apps put their icons on my desktop, cluttering it up. It crashed because it couldn't save the icon to the desktop. I had to disable that option under "customize setup."
Maybe the installer devs shouldn't just assume file creation succeeds. And maybe apps developers should also stop assuming users want their icons on their desktops.
