EC:204 game license expired

So, played Sims 4 yesterday just fine, in offline mode, haven't updated to the last update yet because of waiting for mods.

Today, I want to play it again, in offline mode, same reason, but it shows error EC:204 game license expired, launch your game online to renew license. So, it isn't possible anymore to play offline and wait to update for a while? Because yesterday I was able to do just that.

When googling for this I can only find older posts that say this is resolved, clearly a word that has lost a lot of its meaning online, as well as posts of people also having this issue without solution.

Already tried updating the EA app by way of EAUpdater.exe, already tried restarting laptop, restarting EA app, clearing EA app cache, temporarily moving the licenses folder in programdata to desktop, logging out and logging in again. Nothing of that works.

I play via EA Play via XBox Game Pass, both paid and active.

The Sims 2 opens fine when offline, even I haven't updated that one either. So it's not every game.

This constant updating, which to be fair, most times isn't as big as an update as advertised, is already irritating. On top of that the mod updating process including waiting, which I know is something I choose to myself, not criticizing the modders out there here, but just saying this because the constant mod-updating process is only there because of the constant game updating. And now I can't even play offline?

  • okay, update from my side, for people with the same problem finding this post.
I just chatted with EA help about this and that person fixed something about my game and account, he wasn't saying what exactly, and that I should clear cache in the EA App after that as well as repair my game. I cleared my EA app cache, but didn't repair my game (because that means updating and I haven't updated all my mods yet, the reason I wanted to play offline in the first place) and it worked. So, apparently it wasn't just about clearing the EA App cache, since I already tried that before, but it was about doing so after he changed something what did it.
So in case you haven't tried this, I'd suggest to try this method, in case you can't find the link to chat: https://help.ea.com/nl/solutions/?product=ea-account&category=manage-my-account&topic=login-ea-account
And be sure to add a document, it can just be an empty txt file, otherwise it won't work.
