[FIXED] EA app Friends List Issue - "Presence Update Failed" Error, Mar. 31, '24

Summarize your bug Cannot play online due to inability of changing the online status in the EA app which results in "Presence update failed" error.
How often does the bug occur? Often (50% - 99%)
Steps: How can we find the bug ourselves? Login to EA app as usual. Turn off the EA  app. Update the config manualy and set the "Go Offline" mode - I don't know the name of the property. Launch the app, if you can log in and go to the user UI, change the user status, the popup should show up. The config seems to be held in an online database - I might be wrong about this one.
What happens when the bug occurs? See attached image
What should be happening instead? I should be able to play online in the NFS Heat, but judging the replies to this bug, the other games are affected.

Solution: Go offline, then go back online.

The above solution no longer works!

Source of the bug "Presence update failed": For some reason, when launching the EA Desktop, the app have set the offline mode, but it lauches as a reagular UI in online mode. I hope this issue is a one off for me. I have no logs, no trace, since the solutions I have tried involved reinstalling and cleaning EA Desktop files.
To the dev:

• Product: EA Desktop. (Potentially EABackgroundService.)
• Reproduce:
  • Login to EA app as usual. Turn off the EA  app. Update the config manualy and set the "Go Offline" mode - I don't know the name of the property. Launch the app, if you can log in and go to the user UI, change the user status, the popup should show up.
    • The config seems to be held in an online database - I might be wrong about this one.
• Fix:
  • Find all the places where "Go offline" is set. Select the one that can set this status during launching, as this mode swap happened during launch.
• Other observation
  • Before I noticed the bug, I have noticed, that during the app launch, the Offline screen have showed up for a brief moment, then the UI went back to the regular online mode one.

This afternoon everything was ok, but this evening all my friend was gone; erasing EA app's cache and then uninstalling hadn't work, do I really need to re-add all of them again like I was starting to do?

Same problem here, i added some friends back and today all of them are gone again...

I am unable to connect to my friends or even send him a friend request through the bf2042 in game system.

We are friends on origin and both have our respective accounts linked to our systems, I'm on PC and my friends are on Xbox. 

Notes:

Cross play is enabled.

Game is running on current version.

Have tried using EA id and gamer tag in bf 2042 to no avail.

Tried hosting an empty experience server so he could join and i could add him as a recent player but he was unable to find the experience and the same result for myself when we switched roles.

Tried finding the same custom filters by having the save filter settings in hopes we could join the same game.

Is there any fix to this? just spent an hour trying various things and not one works.

One has a Xbox Series X and the other has an Xbox One.

Friends list is not working. List isn't populating with any of my online friends so I'm not able to invite/be invited into a party. How can something as simple as friends list not function correctly in 2024. I even get recent players popping up when I join a game so why not my friends?

EA app not showing any friends while running NFS HP Remastered. In game i can't see any friend whether they online or not. Rebooted the pc, rebooted the game, reinstalled the EA app, cleaned the AppData\Local\Temp etc. Doesn't help.

Trying to change status - endless error messages with "try again".

Same issue, also noticing some strange behavior with the EA app. Launching it directly it takes a while for the friends list to properly load, meanwhile it says I'm invisible (grey circle), trying to show as online gives me a "Presence update failed" error after ~30 seconds. Sometimes it will eventually update to show me online, but after launching the game, it closes the EA app and re-launches it causing the same error to occur. In-game it doesn't show any friends online or offline, even after waiting for the app to properly connect again. 

Can't play with friends at all because of this. We've played previously with nothing changing about either of our setups. We're both on PC, tried repairing installation, etc. Browsing other threads elsewhere this seems like a widespread problem. Joining a game through the menu still works as expected, and recent players is updating correctly.
