    ISSUE RESOLVED - Accepting as solution for visibility purposes

    Hey everyone,

    The problem with the empty Friends List in the EA app should be fixed now. If you're still having trouble, try restarting the EA app or perform an App Recovery.

    If the problem is still there after restarting or recovering the app, please share your EA app Error Reporter ID on this thread.

    If we don't hear anything, we'll assume everything's sorted and will close this thread soon.

    Update: Since the temporary issue, resulting in the Friends List errors on the EA app, have been resolved, the thread will be closed.

Summarize your bug Cannot play online due to inability of changing the online status in the EA app which results in "Presence update failed" error.
How often does the bug occur? Often (50% - 99%)
Steps: How can we find the bug ourselves? Login to EA app as usual. Turn off the EA  app. Update the config manualy and set the "Go Offline" mode - I don't know the name of the property. Launch the app, if you can log in and go to the user UI, change the user status, the popup should show up. The config seems to be held in an online database - I might be wrong about this one.
What happens when the bug occurs? See attached image
What should be happening instead? I should be able to play online in the NFS Heat, but judging the replies to this bug, the other games are affected.

Solution: Go offline, then go back online.


The above solution no longer works!

Source of the bug "Presence update failed": For some reason, when launching the EA Desktop, the app have set the offline mode, but it lauches as a reagular UI in online mode. I hope this issue is a one off for me. I have no logs, no trace, since the solutions I have tried involved reinstalling and cleaning EA Desktop files.
To the dev:

  • Product: EA Desktop. (Potentially EABackgroundService.)
  • Reproduce:
    • Login to EA app as usual. Turn off the EA  app. Update the config manualy and set the "Go Offline" mode - I don't know the name of the property. Launch the app, if you can log in and go to the user UI, change the user status, the popup should show up.
      • The config seems to be held in an online database - I might be wrong about this one.
  • Fix:
    • Find all the places where "Go offline" is set. Select the one that can set this status during launching, as this mode swap happened during launch.
  • Other observation
    • Before I noticed the bug, I have noticed, that during the app launch, the Offline screen have showed up for a brief moment, then the UI went back to the regular online mode one.

I am unable to connect to my friends or even send him a friend request through the bf2042 in game system.

We are friends on origin and both have our respective accounts linked to our systems, I'm on PC and my friends are on Xbox. 

Notes:

Cross play is enabled.

Game is running on current version.

Have tried using EA id and gamer tag in bf 2042 to no avail.

Tried hosting an empty experience server so he could join and i could add him as a recent player but he was unable to find the experience and the same result for myself when we switched roles.

Tried finding the same custom filters by having the save filter settings in hopes we could join the same game.

Is there any fix to this? just spent an hour trying various things and not one works.

      One has a Xbox Series X and the other has an Xbox One.

        @uglyface15 The friend with the Series X will need to check that they're launching the Series X/S version of the game, in case they're launching the Xbox One version. However, Xbox One cannot crossplay with PC at all, only with PlayStation, so you won't be able to play with that friend I'm afraid.
