Sorry, responding again to ask for a short and sweet version of where I go to block the api? Looking in the files I see a steam api file? Is it that? Does that prevent me from updating the game itself later?
Hi Nikki, I don't know if you were talking to me but you can find a YouTube video on how to add an API to the host file on YouTube. Plus a clear copy and paste of the required line. Just do a search with the terms 'origin EA app host file'. It should come up.
Unfortunately, this didn't work for me and the only work around was uninstalling the EA app, reinstalling origin and then if you do a search on YouTube for how to add a line into the origin local.xml file and add that line it means you can get back into Origin without the pop up.
Sorry I haven't put direct links to the YouTube videos. Everyone is trying to preserve these patches which will only be temporary by not directly linking.
- 2 years ago@Judddinator can you show me how did you do that? I have been looking for the solution for months but I think your way will solve my problem

I did the same yesterday, it works! Still need to figure out how to turn the popup off on Steam but you can bypass that one so it’s just an annoyance. I hesitate on sharing it, worry that EA will try to squash it if too many do it 😒 They were the ones who gave me the download link, though, shockingly. Think their reps are burnt out over this and gave up.
