That is a false positive.
Temporarily disable Bitdefender until the update is complete, thanks.

Hi @EA_Barry
I've just had this for the update too.
Disabling Bitdefender for a malware detection (and quarantine) surely can't be EA's solution.
Do we know if there is going to be a fix from EA for this?
Thanks,
MH
- STG_Mordin7 months agoRising Hotshot@mghty_haggis88 There's nothing to fix. BitDefender is trash, and shouldn't be trusted. If you disable it temporarily and then take the executable and upload it for scanning on virustotal.com you will see that there will be only 1-2 matches, both marked as heuristics scanning (basically guesswork, because heuristics doesn't rely on virus signatures but is trying to be "smart" and since it isn't smart it has a lot of false positives -- after all they want to keep you scared so they can keep selling you AV subscription).
Advice: Ditch BitDefender and use Windows Defender instead, it's free and good enough. If you really insist on paid AV, then get ESET, they are reliable and widely used in enterprises.

just got the same response after latest update (July 7 - 2024) Bitdefender identified BF2042.exe_DiP_Staged if infected with Gen:Variant.Barys.382515 and was moved to quarantine. You guys at EA are aware of this issue and according to numerous previous posts, this has been going on for a while, so why are you not fixing this issue? Your latest response suggests turning off critical virus detection and protection software when installing the update is not a viable solution. You need to fix the problem properly and permanently. Be proactive and fix what needs to be fixed, I don't get this when using any other software updates and clearly that points the finger at whatever methods you are currently using.

Same here. Bitdefender identified BF2042.exe_DiP_Staged infected with Gen:Variant.Barys.382515 and automatically placed it in quarantine.
- 7 months ago@EA_Barry Hello again, the same malware warning and quarantine has come up again with the new F1 24 update. It's really not acceptable for EA to have this repeatedly come up. Is this the official EA solution and if so, will EA indemnify any loss incurred by customers who bypass their anti virus. Look forward to your speedy reply.

Exactly the same thing is happening to me, with Bitdefender and the latest BF2042 update

just update 2042 and bitdefender said :
The file C:\Program Files\EA Games\Battlefield 2042\BF2042.exe_DiP_Staged is infected with Gen:Variant.Barys.382515 and was moved to quarantine. It is recommended that you run a System Scan to make sure your system is clean.

This surely can't be a legit response to this... Multiple AV's are picking this up as malware. Why is it being flagged? Is there an official response to this other than your post?

Had the same issue with the BitDefender claiming its infected.
Ended up running repair on the game. It runs and fails to complete, but after a reboot, the repair completed successfully without any troubles from BitDefender.
Hope this helps (:
