PC EA app - "The app crashed unexpectedly" or "Background Services Crashed"

Hi everyone,

A new update, v13.188, has been released for the EA app on Windows. This update seems to include a fix for the "The app crashed unexpectedly" or "Background Services Crashed" error on the Windows EA app. Make sure your EA app is up-to-date or check if an update is waiting to be installed.

The EA app usually updates itself periodically during startup. This is true for both Windows and Mac. However, Windows users also have the option to manually update the client. You can do this by following the provided steps here.

    Hey just curious does the crash happen usually after you have to do an app recovery because somehow your games don't show as installed? That is the only time I get the app or background service crash is right after it closes and then tries to connect. I used to have to do the same stuff let it update to whatever version and then it would be fine for a day or two. But seriously doing app recovery all the time can't be good for it. I also find that a simple restarting of the computer fixes it to. For at least a few days.

  • Hiya! I cannot log into my account on the EA App because of the "The App crashed unexpectedly" error, but if I log in with a fresh account, newly made, it lets me log in just fine. I do not want a new account, though, because I have bought so many packs for the Sims ☹️

    I have tried repairing the EA App, completely uninstalling and reinstalling, restarting my computer, a combination of these plus deleting leftover program files, installing the EA app on different hard drives, clearing the cache (after managing to log in on the fresh account), running as administrator, disabling all my firewalls and built-in antivirus protection, etc. Nothing is working.

  • For the last two years i come and go with your service the EA app is total garbage the Origin app was spot on didn't need replacing then again you guys should of just kept selling your games through Steam tired of all these companies and their own launchers it's messy and dumb.  Anyway i followed all the fixes and workarounds i find/found here and on the net nothing works not only does the EA app constantly crash it won't load older games like Bejeweled and most of the Command and Conquer games will not launch. This sucks i want out of your service i paid for your games release them to me free of this god awful app it is a pile of dog *!!!!

  • I'M HAVING THIS SAME EXACT ISSUE WITH MADDEN.

    If i use a different account it launches ,but from my account nothing.

    EA support basically told me good luck and nothing to be done lol. total joke

    my issue seems to be with a corrupted cloud save

    is the problem solved? cause i started the ea app today after my last time gameplay in ocotber 2025 and recieved that error code for the first time... EC:108
