Re: EA ap Background Service keeps running while EA app is stopped

Ok CMs, I know there is a forum about EA App, this post is about informing the 2042 community about an issue so please don’t move it over. That’ll defeat the whole purpose. Anyways, by now the majority of you will know about EA App being the replacement for Origin. You may even have noticed that when you close the app by the X in the corner, it minimizes not closes. To turn it actually off, you have to go into the menu and select Quit. It’s annoying but pales in comparison to the other surprise. EA includes a Background Services app. Even if you quit the app, the background service will run. If you stop it in Task Manager, the play app won’t work. The problem, aside from it running in the background using resources and power, is it’s a system file. This means it has a higher level of permissions that running a file as an admin. There are posts about this in the EA App folder: https://answers.ea.com/t5/EA-app/ct-p/ea-app-en. There are only 2-3 posts about the Background Service, and we need to change that. As gamers we need to make it clear the Background Service needs to be controlled by us, not EA. It needs to have less access, as it won’t be long before bad actors take advantage and use it to malicious intent. I have no idea it’s running on Consoles. EA won’t even tell us the purpose of the Background Service. It’s using network bandwidth as well, so if you’re paying per byte, this is costing you. We need to demand to know. Why is my PC being forced to accept a back door into its inner workings? This is a huge overreach. I’m PO’d!
