Re: EA app stuck on 'Applying Update'

Solved

Hi everyone,

The EA ap dev teams have deployed a fix for this issue. The most recent version of the EA app is 12.80.0.5337, which contains the fix. It can take some time for the update to reach all players, but it shouldn't take longer than 24h-48h. Alternatively, you can run the EA Updater program (that is installed on your PC when you install the EA app) to force-download the new EA app version.

If you are still experiencing this issue after updating the EA app to version 12.80.0.5337 (or newer), please let us know here in the thread.

Thanks!

If you continue to experience this error, it would be appreciated if you could share some data with us that allows the EA app dev team to investigate the issue.

Could you share the EA app logs & the EA Error Reporter ID with us, here in the thread?

The EA app logs can be found in "C:\ProgramData\EA Desktop\Logs" and "C:\Users\%username%\AppData\Local\Electronic Arts\EA Desktop\Logs" (without the quotation marks) and it would be nice if you could put them in a .zip or .rar file and upload them here as a post attachment.

Please also generate an EA app Error Reporter ID and share this ID here. The EA Error Reporter ID can be generated by clicking on the hamburger menu in the top-left corner > Help > EA Error Reporter.

Many thanks in advance!

Hi @jilldrakena, you are experiencing the exact same behavior of the EA app? What is your EA app version?

Apex is stuck on 99% applying updates for me as well. I have the latest version of the EA app installed (version 12.111.0) and I tried running the app as an administrator and that didn't work. I've tried clearing my cache and that didn't work as well. I've tried restarting the update and am again stuck on 99% applying update. PLEASE HELP

  • hello ! I'm having the same issue with sims 4, the EA app gets stuck on "applying update" everytime I've tried clearing my cache and my EA app is the latest version. Can you please help me ?

  • I've had this issue for ages where it will randomly stop when applying the update or whilst it's regularly updating and my EA Play is fully up to date. Please fix this it's incredibly annoying.

    Hi all,

If you're experiencing this EA app stuck on "Applying Update" issue, please provide the requested details, so the EA app teams can investigate the issue.

    Thanks.

  • This is the worst app of all time.  I purchased Jedi: Survivor using this app and firstly it took forever and a day just to download and then update the game the first time.   So I went to sleep thinking I'd be able to play the game once I woke up this morning.  I woke up and tried to play, it said the update was complete but wouldn't allow me to start the game.  SO, I thought, maybe try to repair game and see if that works.  It then took another 2 hours to repair the files.  Then I had to download the update again, which took another hour and some change.  Then, I have to apply the update.  Apply the update was like watching a snail crawl.  This game released at 12am this morning.  Here it is 7am and I still haven't even played it once.  I tried pausing it and then restarting it to see if that would speed up the applying update process....but NOOOOO, it has to redo it again.  And guess what, I just got finished "applying the update" and now it has to verify 130GBs of files.   I've tried being patient with this thing but rest assured, I will never buy through EA ever again.

@NeoXzero_96imoc I too am having Jedi Survivor problems. Not only did the launch patch take an absolute age to download because it kept slowing to sub 1MB speed, but now it's been 'applying update' for nearly an hour and it's not yet halfway through.
  • Is there a way we can download the patch somewhere and put it in the folder?  Been fighting the update on Star Wars ALL FRIKIN DAY

Why this isnt an option I cannot fathom.... companies like EA make millions on millions but cant produce a working App without a forum full of issues that all get met with a generic "its not us, its you" response.

I have 150mb/s internet thats running perfectly.
Jedi Survivor has a 1.3GB update.... its taken 90 minutes so far and now its applying update and is likely to be doing so until 9pm.

    FOR 1GB.

People need jobs to pay the price tags on these games, but will I get time to play in my free time? Nope!

Edit: It finished applying update faster than expected so the 1GB update process only took 2.5hrs in the end! However its now downloading something else thats 22GB.... ill let you know how I get on in 4.5 days.

Having the same issue. Applying update either being incredibly slow or getting stuck, and any attempt to fix it or pause/restart causes it to go back to 0% and start again. Logs attached and error report ID below.

EA app Error Reporter ID: 5b190689-3497-491f-8edb-80c3c54ae0c7

The fact that this has been an issue for so long, and with a supposed fix having been released months ago that quite obviously still does not work is appalling. The "support" has been to ask for error logs and report IDs with what looks like no actual attempted fix given. I understand this is a development issue, but it is absolutely atrocious that 1. This issue itself hasn't been fixed when it has been going on for so long and affected so many people and 2. The support provided is virtually non-existent.

Is this actually going to be fixed, or are we able to get our money back? I am not okay with paying for a product and service that then turns out to be so poor it's almost inaccessible.

  • The fact that this 1.75GB update is taking more thant 5 minutes is atrocious. Launched the update at 3pm. It's now been two hours and I'm stuck at "applying update" at around 5%.

This, knowing that I already tried every tip, trick and patch provided by the community (since EA has been unable to povide any help for the past two years), is appalling.

Please EA, you have sufficient data now to know that the problem comes from your app, and not from the 3k+ people that took time to expose the issue.
Are you guys planning to deal with those issues ? Or are you still gonna throw your reps and other CMs under the bus and blame the users ?

@IsThatKane Oh and now, 3hours and a half later, EA wants to verify the whole game, which might take another 2-3hours as I see it going.

Remember it was a 1.75 GB update. 6 hours spent

Guys, something worked for me. I had a 1,25gb update for Star wars jedi suvivior. It took like 6 hours for download the update, and installing, after that there was even a "install verification thing". then i was like "* this EA app, man this app is Sh*t for real". so i installed origin, logged in with the same Email. when i opend origin it said "hey, download EA app, thats better" but in the background i saw that jedi suvivor was updating automaticly. just took 30 min and now i can play again 🙂)

  • This is rediculous!  Been trying to get an update for Jedi Survivor working since 3 PM. It is now 1146 PM. I have tried all of EA's "fixes" (clear cache, reinstall desktop, turn everyhing off, etc). This app is a big Peice of Garbage. I'm about to request my money back and just give up on anything EA releases. I thought SOE was the only one that could screw up this badly. NOPE.  I am attaching the requested files.  The Report ID's I've submitted so far are:

    97fac08c-4d01-4351-805f-c561bd8c2ccd
    75ecd6e5-7458-4ace-9467-f48bbac7bd25

....Just tried to upload the .zip file like they Requested... guess what isn't a supported extention type!!!!!!!!  How the hell would you like these files then. Since it seems your own community system can't even accept what you need to help you with????

  • I have never had this much trouble with a piece of gaming software since I began building my own PCs in 2007.

Sometimes it gets stuck on Preparing. Sometimes it gets stuck on Applying (after spending upwards of 2 hrs on a ~1g patch). When it gets stuck, often I cannot even End Task with Task Manager. In these cases, I cannot Restart my computer without getting an endless restart screen. I have to hard reset. Often when I reboot, the EA Desktop app will not open and gives me a EC:104 error. If I instead reboot and use the installer to Repair the app, it will open and restart the update. At this point it will hang again after *hours* and the whole thing starts again.

I had to practically berate Best Buy to even get my pre-order stuff and now I cannot even patch the game in order to play it.

Somehow, it gets more absurd because you requested .zip or .rar compressed folders but the forum won't let me upload .zip file formats...  so here are just a couple.

I can't generate that Error ID or w/e because, again, the f*cking app won't open

Update: I used Revo Uninstaller to purge EA App from my system and reinstalled fresh. It took 2+ hours to get this 1.4g or w/e patch to Verifying AND THEN FROZE AT 7% AND CAUSED FILE EXPLORER TO FREEZE. This strange connection between EA App freezing and Explorer locking up has dogged all these efforts and was not in anyway resolved by a clean reinstall or any other homeopathic remedy I've seen.

Honestly, I'm pretty close to waiting for a pirated copy since I can't play my actual copy and have spent hours equivalent to a day or more of paid work trying to troubleshoot (twice that if you count the preorder bonus woes) and haven't seen any real communication or help from EA + seems like this kind of thing has been going on for months for other users.

  • Great to see that in June 2023 this still hasn't been fixed when it was initially reported here in late 2022. You should be ashamed of yourselves. People are spending their hard earned money on a game they love to play, but they can't play because it takes several hours to install a 2gb update to a game. Shame on you. I've always known EA was a terrible company, but this is a whole new level scummy business.

Edit: It has taken me 15 mins to verify the 80 gb file for bf2042, 30 mins to download a 2gb update with decent internet speed (60mbps download on every other launcher), then another hour to apply the update, then another hour to verify all 80gb of the game. Sort your * out EA
