Re: FIFA 23 won't start from Steam (EA app)

Hello @jgdnix,

are you having the same problem of the EA app just opening and closing when trying to start a game? Or are you getting an error message?

The same fixes are recommended over and over again, because they work for quite a few people - it's just not that obvious in the forum because obviously only the people whose issues are not fixed with them keep posting in the forum. If you have the same problem as oontomi, I can try helping you here - otherwise, I would recommend opening a new thread as to not make this one too messy while trying to help with two similar, but different issues.

Regarding the third party launchers, there is no plan to get rid of them - currently the connection is creating quite a bit of trouble for some players, yes, but in general, they work quite well. Players are also able to simply purchase games over EA and the EA app and avoid third party launchers if they want.

What am i supposed to when none of the fixes work and i can't play now? Can i somehow transfer the game to the ea app from steam without buying the game again? Or can i get origin back?

  • There's a fix from a Steam user that involves installing certificates for the AntiCheat application and dll that can be found here: https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=2922624101

This is what worked for me, but I also did a complete uninstall of the game, renamed the FIFA 23 folder it left behind to FIFA23.old, then downloaded the game and reinstalled it from scratch. I'm not sure whether that part is necessary, but I figured it couldn't hurt at this point.

Hopefully that works for you too.  First time in 25 years of PC gaming and a 10+ year career in IT that I ever saw an issue that was caused or solved by certificates like this, and I've seen my fair share of weird computer problems.

It's still unacceptable at how many times EA's updates have stopped me from playing this game, and the obscene amount of time I've spent searching for and trying various solutions to get around the obstacles they keep throwing at me, none of which have been the "official"  fixes suggested by EA themselves.

I've got a Steam library of over 320 games, only two of them won't launch, and they're both EA.  Needless to say,  this is the straw that broke the camel's back.  I won't be purchasing an EA game again. I should have heeded my friend's warnings when they gave up on this company years ago.

  • this still didn't work even though i tried it multiple times with reinstalling the game and restarting my computer

  • i have the exact same issue, i installed, well it forced me to install ea app instead of origin, game wont start. i've tried what you said bu didnt work

    Hello @flaviusvegetius,

did you try all the potential solutions, including the one from jgdnix?

Are you getting the same kind of symptoms, so the EA app not opening correctly?

Could you open the EA app and do the app recovery in there as well?

    Hello @flaviusvegetius,

    could you try this?

Navigate to the FIFA23 game installation path

In the FIFA23 folder, locate the 2 AntiCheat components, one is EAAntiCheat.GameServiceLauncher.exe, the other one is EAAntiCheat.GameServiceLauncher.dll.

Right click it, Properties - Digital Signature - Select the EA signature - Detailed information - View the certificate - Install Certificate - Use the default options and click next, next to complete it.

Do the same process for the both components.

Go to Origin or Steam to launch the game, and see if it works.
