Re: How to fix EA app Error 500?
Hello all,
There hasn't been much discussion since April so I don't know if this issue was solved but in my case I still have it.
The fun fact is that I have it on my 2 years old high end PC but not on my 9 years old PC... I am starting to wonder if this does not have something to do with Windows wanting me to switch to v11…
Anyway, I tried the EA Updater solution and it works fine until it tells you that EA app is already up to date!
It seems like everything comes from the fact that the “EABackgroundService” does not launch properly when you start your PC and the EA Updater seems to "reset" it and make it start somehow.
Indeed, I noticed that the service is running when EA App works fine but that the service is not running when I get the error message. I really don't understand why this service does not launch. I guess it is bugged.
When the EA Updater cannot update the app anymore, it is hard to find a way to launch this service yourself! I could not find a way to start the service manually despite going into the “Task Manager” to activate it, going to “msconfig” to ensure that the service is enabled... nothing worked.
However, I did find a way that works everytime since I started using it after figuring it out. It is definitely not a permanent solution but it does the work! It is really simple :
1. Start your computer as you normally do.
2. Make sure in the EA app that “open EA app automatically on startup” is activated. If this is disabled, it may prevent the “EABackgroundService” to launch properly. I have a feeling that in my case, the issue started after I disabled this option and even if I reactivated it after, I still have the issue. But I am not sure about that fact.
3. Check in the "Task Manager", "Services" tab and look for "EABackgroundService" row. Check that in the status column, it says that the service is stationary or something with a similar meaning (I do not know the name in English but in French is "à l'arrêt" ou "arrêt"), not "stopped" (“arrêté” in French), it is a different status which seems unusual (could not find any other service with that status). Right click on the status and check that all options in the menu are disabled, meaning you cannot start the service manually or that the "start" option is available but it does not do anything when you click it. This will mean that you probably have the same problem as me. You only have to check it the first time you try the solution.
4. After that, simply restart your PC using the "Restart" option in the "Start" Menu. Do not use the "Shut down" option and then start your PC again using the button. It will not work. It has to be "Restart"!
5. Once your PC is restarted, you can go back in the “Task Manager”, “Service” tab to check the “EABackgroundService” status and notice that it should now be “Running”. You only have to check that once also, the first time you try this solution, just to be sure, but for the next time you want to play, you don’t have to. It is just a way to confirm that the issue is linked to the “EABackgroundService”.
6. Then, you can open EA app and normally the error message should be gone and your games should be available to play.
So basically, you only have to start your PC normally and right after your PC is started, you just have to restart it using the “Start” menu and it should fix the issue. You will have to do that everytime you want to play with your games though.
Using sleep and hibernation modes keeps the EABackgroundService active so if you don't want to shut down your PC at the end of the day, you can just use them and you will not have to restart your PC to play again.
I have not tried to uninstall and reinstall the EA app because I read that it may cause more issues on other threads so maybe this solution can also fix the issue and provide a cleaner solution in certain cases but I doubt it since it was not proposed as a solution on this thread.
I hope this will help some of you guys while we wait for a definitive solution!
Cheers
Sarah
