Re: Mac EA app - "The app crashed unexpectedly" or "Background Services Crashed"

Today I opened Origin on Mac to play Sims4 but it forced me to download the EA app. I downloaded and installed the EA app but when I try to open it, I immediately get "The app crashed unexpectedly. A quick restart should fix it." I don't even make it to the login screen before it crashes.

I'm on MacOS Ventura 13.6.7 using a 2017 MacBook Pro. Here is everything I've tried with no success:

  • Restarting the EA app dozens of times
  • Uninstalling and redownloading/reinstalling the EA app for Mac several times (from the EA website)
  • Reinstalling the Origin app (just forces me to download the EA app, which automatically uninstalls Origin again)
  • Deleting any EA and Origin folders/files from my Library, Documents, Applications, Downloads, Trash
  • Ensuring my OS is up to date
  • Ensuring the EA app has full disk access
  • Ensuring my computer meets all system requirements, as far as I can tell
  • Ensuring I have enough storage (575 GB available)

I have no idea what else to try. I didn't use any mods in Sims4 and I don't have antivirus software on my Mac. I've searched the help forums but haven't found any other solutions for Mac. FWIW, Sims4 worked perfectly fine on Origin yesterday, I wish I could just continue to use Origin. Instead I'm completely unable to open or play the game at all. What do I do?

Hello! Ive been having problems opening the EA app on my MacBook. It was working perfectly up until 3 weeks ago and now I keep getting the same three messages pop up I will insert pictures.

Ive tried uninstalling the app, restarting and updating my computer, clearing up storage space, but nothing works! is anyone else having this problem or have any tips on how to fix it?

I transferred from Origin to the EA App and since doing so, I've been unable to open the EA App. I get a popup that says the app crashed unexpectedly. I've tried to redownload it multiple times, but that hasn't helped either. After redownloading and trying to open the EA App, I get the error code EC:104 then I restart the app and get the popup that says the app has crashed unexpectedly.

This exact thing has been happening to me! Ever since the EA app came out I have been unable to use it (same problem) and just continued using origin. But now they have kicked me off of origin and I cannot use it as all without being redirected to the EA app. The download goes fine but when I try to open the app the same error message comes up that something crashed and recommending restart. When I click restart another error message arises which forces me to close the app. I've done everything suggested as this other player has done and talked via chat with someone who could not help and said that they would submit something to the EA technical team as anything they sent me did not help. SOS I miss my Sims 4 game

  • I am having the exact same issue and EA is notoriously unhelpful. I have been dreading this change for months after everything went to * for PC users, guess it's our turn to suffer from * programming. I also found the following link in a similar thread : https://bluebellflora.com/2024/04/04/ea-app-recovery-for-mac-reset-ea-app-by-clearing-cache-and-other-files-manually/

tried it all, the app still crashes the second it opens. and I'm using Sonoma 14.4.1, so it is very clearly an EA problem. typical.

I'm having the literal exact same problem. I was just playing on Origin this afternoon. Now I'm just watching the EA app fail and fail and fail. Everything is updated, caches cleared. Once, I was able to put in my user ID and password before it crashed but only once.

    LET ME PLAY ON ORIGIN.

@looonatooona Thank you for all this detail! Now I don't have to try the few things on this list I haven't tried yet. 🙂

I've also been having the same problem for 2 weeks now. I've tried all the solutions I can find online (reinstalling, allowing full disk access, following the bluebellflora guide steps), but nothing is working.

I had no issues when using origin and did not want to upgrade but it gives a dialogue box that cannot be closed now just saying to upgrade to the ea app. I should be able to play a same I have paid for.
