Mac EA app - "The app crashed unexpectedly" or "Background Services Crashed"

I am having the exact same issue and EA is notoriously unhelpful. I have been dreading this change for months after everything went to * for PC users, guess it's our turn to suffer from * programming. tried it all, the app still crashes the second it opens. and I'm using Sonoma 14.4.1, so it is very clearly an EA problem. typical.
