Sims 4 packs aren't loading in game

Hey, I've been having issues with my packs loading in game. On the EA app it says we own the packs, and even on the Sims 4 Home Screen, but in the actual game itself the packs won't load. Since EA says I own the packs I couldn't even repurchase if I wanted to. The only pack showing up is the Christmas kit, but the packs we own include: Cottage Living, Eco Lifestyle, Island Living, Cats & Dogs, Get to Work, Tiny Living, Moschino, My First Pet, Laundry Day, Romantic Garden, and Spooky. My sister had installed some Costume Content on the game, which I assumed was the source of the problem. However, after I deleted the CC, the packs still weren't showing up on the game and I still don't know how to fix it. We paid for these packs and I'd really hate for them to be gone forever with no way to get them back. Please help.

  • Overview

This problem appears to be mainly, if not entirely, related to the Sims 4 packs in question being installed to a different location than the base game.  The EA App sees the packs as installed, because they are, but the game can't find them to load their content.  In order for the packs to load, the "The Sims 4 Packs" folder must be in the same location as the Sims 4.app:

    Solution

If you're running into this issue, the first step is to identify the affected packs and find their codes, as listed here:

    https://sims4.crinrict.com/eng/extras-2/available-packs-dlc/

For example, Get to Work is EP01; For Rent is EP15.

If you've installed Sims 4 onto an external drive, make sure it's plugged in and recognized.  Open Terminal, which is inside Applications > Utilities, copy and paste the following search command, and enter:

    find / -name "EP01" 2>/dev/null

Except instead of EP01 , you'll use the code for one of your missing packs.  Don't change anything else about the command.  Terminal may take a few minutes to complete the process, so please be patient; you'll know the search is finished when the command prompt reappears.  If Sims 4 is installed anywhere on your computer, you will see at least one result.

You can ignore the entries that start with System/Volumes, as these are redundant.  For the rest, you may see something like this:

    /Users/username/Applications/The Sims 4 Packs/__Installer/DLC/EP01
    /Users/username/Applications/The Sims 4 Packs/EP01
    /Users/username/Applications/The Sims 4.app/Contents/Delta/EP01

The first part of the file path must be the same for all three entries, as above.  If The Sims 4.app is in a different location, like this:

    /Users/username/Applications/The Sims 4 Packs/__Installer/DLC/EP01
    /Users/username/Applications/The Sims 4 Packs/EP01
    /Applications/EA Games/The Sims 4.app/Contents/Delta/EP01

That's the problem.  You'll need to move the "The Sims 4 Packs" folder to the same location as the Sims 4.app.  In the above example, that would mean moving the Packs folder out of Users > your username > Applications and into Applications > EA Games.

If this doesn't work, delete the Packs folder, run the EA App Recovery tool (under the Help menu at the top of the screen, with the EA App in focus), and restart your computer, then redownload the missing packs.

If this doesn't help either, please reply to this thread, and post the results of the Terminal search for at least two of your missing packs.  Feel free to remove or black out your username where you see it, if you want, but leave everything else intact.

You can copy and paste the results from the Terminal window, or you can use cmd-shift-4 to take a screenshot of the relevant portion of the screen.

  • I switched from Origin to EA app and it says everything I have purchased is downloaded, but none of it will show up in game. I have tried restarting both my game and computer, deleting and redownloading EA and I swear I've tried everything online, but nothing will work.

@puzzlezaddict So when I looked at my Sim packs, all of these came up. Which I think are the packs?

@DolinskiClan  Let's search for your installed packs.  Open Terminal, inside Documents > Electronic Arts > The Sims 4, and enter this:

    find / -name "EP01" 2>/dev/null

    Then run this:

    find / -name "EP04" 2>/dev/null

These commands will search for Get to Work and Cats & Dogs, respectively.  The question here is not just whether the packs are installed, but where, relative to the base game.  Please post the full results for both.  You can black out your username if you want, but leave the rest intact.

@immortalgems  Please run the first command above, and post the result; and run the second as well if you own Cats & Dogs.

  • So my game has worked well with the EA App change from Origin. I have been playing the Sims 4 more and more the last few weeks but this week, I launched the game and tried to open a save file but an error popped up stating I need 16 packs to play this save file. It then prompts me about the expansions I needed but shows I own them.

I have reached out to EA Support to help me with this after uninstalling and reinstalling the app didn't work. They had me do the same thing and still nothing worked. They basically had no idea what was happening with my game and said they will have to pass this issue on to another team and asked I post in the forum as well.

I am not sure what to even do about this issue.
