What helped me was performing a "clear cache": https://help.ea.com/en/help/faq/clear-cache-to-fix-problems-with-your-games/
From the EA Desktop app
Select the three dashes in the far-left corner of EA Desktop.
Scroll to Help.
Click App recovery.
Select Clear cache.

Thank you so much this was perfect, funny how this isn't the first thing an ea worker recommends, I didn't even know that button was there
