[WORKAROUND] "An unknown error occurred" while downloading DLC on EA app for Mac

Recently transfered from Origin to the EA app, but for some reason the app would not launch the game from my external hard drive - note that i have had no problems with this AT ALL before the forced move to the EA platform. 

I even deleted the game and all the folders inside the external drive, hoping that it would solve the problem, but the same message (the screenshot i attatched) appears each time i try to cancel the download, and start from the beginning again. 

This is super frustrating and i have done everything in my power to try to solve this.
