It's pretty obvious really that the ones they sold the company to have no interest in this game. That support will stop is a given, unless that purchase somehow does not follow through or Maxis goes independent.
I don't think so because The Sims is a major cash cow, is the only life sim on the market, and it's a very recognized brand in media and pop culture.
If we really do have a year or less left of TS4 that's quite upsetting and people should be warned.
The Saudis have no "interest" in Madden NFL, either, but they claim to want money. Why is it a GIVEN that they will shutter The Sims just because it's a "girl" game or some other NON-FINANCIAL reason? A GIVEN? No one has said that.
How would Maxis be able to go independent, though??
In 2021 EA Sports (FIFA and Madden) were 67% of the revenue and The Sims 4 was 16%.
I doubt that EA will let Maxis go alone because The Sims keeps EA Entertainment alive.
The prince likes FemShepard maybe EA Entertainment won't be sold because of Mass Effect.
Whatever would remain of Maxis would just be a hollow shell though, since I imagine especially of the sims team a lot of staff would resign based on principle due to the change of ownership and plenty fired. And they would take a lot of knowledge with them of how to make this very particular kind of game.
And I'd wish them luck trying to get a new sims game to succeed that won't even allow same sex romance. The competition would bury them alive. Let's face it, the sims has no future unless Maxis goes independent, otherwise it will be up to successor games to fill it's shoes.
Now if another big publisher is smart, they'd use the opportunity to gather up plenty of leaving Maxis staff to put to work on making such a successor game and claim the monopoly on such games that EA will now lose.
