Unlink Account 6 Month "Cooldown"

I have been playing Battlefield 6 since launch on PC, using Steam. Due to my PC getting old, and the new season update being unplayable due to low FPS, I purchased Battlefield 6 on my PS5.

I have two EA accounts on separate emails, I was trying to link my steam account, and Playstation account under the same EA account so I could transfer my Steam progression to my PS5.

I went to unlink one of the accounts, it then said I cannot unlink the accounts for 6 whole months. After speaking with EA live chat support, they continued to close the chat each time I asked if there was any way they could solve it. They would just tell me to wait out this "cooldown period".

I went to log on and play Skate. on steam, only to find out I now have 0 progress saved due to this account linking issue. I had paid real money on in game purchases, which now cannot be used for 6 months.

This 6 month account linking cooldown is absolutely ridiculous, when I am able to provide any amount of proof that I am the owner, and have access to any and all EA accounts associated with my emails.

Also just noticed that I also lost my progression, and some in game purchases on UFC 6. Amazing that I cannot access any of this for 6 months.

  • Hey GizmoFHC sorry to hear that you are running into issues.

These restrictions are in place for a number of reasons, both to protect your account and to stop people abusing the ability to link and unlink.

You can find all the info around unlinking accounts here

When you unlink a platform account from your EA Account, you can link it to another EA Account, but your game progress won’t transfer over. That means you’ll permanently lose access to:

    • game progress
    • DLC, expansions, and anything extra you have for your game
    • memberships and subscriptions
    • previous drops and other rewards
    • in-game purchases.

I know it is not what you want to hear but we simply cannot assist in getting around this restriction. What I can do is share your feedback with the team about this.

  • Could you please reference the many other complaints of this issue when submitting feedback. I see this complaint goes back months. 6 Months is unnecessary.

We pass them on GizmoFHC but as I said, this is there for a variety of reasons and unlikely to change.

I'm in the same position as this user, I cannot fathom why this process exists or why it's even permitted. This must be discussed at a more senior level.

Hey AmokBSN this is in place for a number of reasons.

We are happy to pass your feedback around this on to the team.

Hey all, it's worth checking this again if you have been seeing a message that you need to wait 6 months or more to link or unlink.

Do you mean check my account to see if I can now unlink it? If that's what you meant, I still need to wait for 6 months.

I did highlight in my other post that, while I understand the security requirements, I go through MFA multiple times on my EA account, my linked account, and when speaking with the agent. This provides sufficient security controls and assurance (in my opinion).

For that reason, I’m somewhat sceptical that this is genuinely a security concern and suspect it may be more about enforcing a specific rule or process.
