Split Fiction digital download error

I purchased a digital copy of split fiction in person and the code for redemption is coming up as an error code of 9001-0040 saying it’s already been used even though it is not in my virtual game cards or Home Screen on the switch 2. Is it possible to get the redemption date to see if it was used and returned, or get the error fixed? Nintendos customer service sent me here so I don’t know where else to go to fix this

  • Hello, I was wondering where did you possibly buy it from as well I bought mine from target and I’m having the same situation and it’s getting me nowhere and at this point I actually have to go back to target in person and possibly get a **bleep** refund on this because don’t get a replacement because if you have the same issue, they won’t be able to help you at all.

    Hi folks,

If you purchased a digital game code from a third-party store and redeemed it on your platform, but it shows as already used or redeemed, the only option is to contact the store where the code was purchased for help.

EA does not sell digital codes directly and cannot investigate or replace them. The retailer you bought the code from is the seller and is responsible for providing support in this situation.

This is such a no help response from EA of all companies. That’s why your company is trash. This was purchased in store from me personally from target. It was a switch 2 code in the box meaning it was a physical box with the download code in there I literally have to go back to my store and return it in person because they don’t take replacements or refunds online due to me buying it in store. Honestly, so God helped me as long as I live. I will never buy EA game new especially one with a code in the box I would rather buy this **bleep** from GameStop preowned or from eBay

I get why this feels like a dead end, especially after buying it in person.

The key fact here is that EA has no visibility into Nintendo redemption data and no ability to check, reset, or replace Switch download codes -- whether they’re sold online or inside a physical box. Those codes are generated, tracked, and validated entirely through Nintendo and the retailer’s inventory system.

To use a simple comparison: if you buy a product from a store and there’s an issue with what was sold, the resolution goes through the store that sold it -- not the manufacturer. Same situation here. The retailer that sold the code is the only party that can verify whether it was already redeemed and issue a refund or replacement.

The correct next step is returning to the Target store where it was purchased and asking them to handle it as a code already redeemed at time of sale. That’s the scenario retailers are equipped to resolve.
