DEV TIPS FROM THE CREATORS OF IMMORTALS OF AVEUM
Ascendant offers their best inside tricks to give you an edge in the Everwar
Article copied from ea.com blog.
The launch of Immortals of Aveum™ is upon us! The Everwar makes the world a relentlessly dangerous place, so we’re here to arm you with the best tips and tricks to win the day.
These tips come from the developers themselves over at Ascendant Studios. The team has shared their favorite techniques and suggestions to enhance your experience and give you the edge you need to defeat the forces of Rasharn.
Shields charged, Fury spells ready, we’re set to go… Sigils up!
THE BASICS
First off, players take control of the protagonist, Jak (played by Darren Barnett), who unexpectedly manifests magical abilities and is reluctantly thrust into mankind’s endless war for the control of magic. Facing down Sandrakk, the Tyrant of Rasharn, and saving Aveum from crumbling into oblivion is going to take courage, devastating spells, and a whole lot of magic. Here’s what you need to know:
- Triarch Magnus - While most Magni can wield one, sometimes two colors of magic, Jak is an Unforeseen Triarch Magnus - a spellcaster capable of harnessing all three colors of magic, Red, Blue, and Green.
- Sigils - A battlemage’s primary weapons that allow them to focus and control their magical abilities into powerful attacks.
- Strike Spells - A battlemage’s main attack, and each color of magic has 3 Strike spells to choose from
- Control Spells - Off-hand spells that help you control the battlefield. Ensnare enemies with Lash, slow them down with Limpets, or stun them with Disrupt..
- Fury Spells - a heavy attack that does high damage and requires Fury mana to cast.
- Dominion - Your ultimate attack that channels all three colors of magic into a devastating beam that does massive damage
- Augment Spells - Manipulate and navigate the environment in and out of combat with abilities like Blink, Hover, Shield, Grapple, and more.
- Talents - Upgrades to your spells and abilities. As you earn experience and defeat enemies, you can unlock nodes in the Red, Blue, and Green Talent trees to customize your playstyle.
- Blue Magic is best for long-range crit damage and boosting defenses with a Shield.
- Red Magic will often stagger or push back enemies and is great for up-close crowd control.
- Green Magic uses rapid-fire magic projectiles that hone in on targets, and is great for a run-and-gun style.
And remember, matching your attack with the enemy’s magic color will more efficiently shred their defenses.
Aveum is full of mysterious secrets. As you pick up new spells and abilities, be sure to revisit previous locations. You never know what you’ll discover from a hidden Golden Chest or at the end of a Shroudfane.
So what sort of tips and tricks does the Dev team have?
JASON, LEAD COMBAT DESIGNER
- Fragfire and Breachfire Chaos (Red) Strike spells do more damage the closer you are to the enemy.
- Chronicler's crystals will explode if you cast lethal damage against their crystal.
- Cast the Control spell Disrupt on big enemies to stagger them and give yourself a breather.
- When exploring, always look up! Many large tree roots hold secrets!
- The "Perfect Block" talent unlocks a parry-like system for your Shield.
- If you are focusing on one type of Sigil, use a Fury-focused Sigil for your off-hand Sigil. This will give you the benefit of boosting the attributes of your Fury spells while keeping your main Sigil tuned to delivering maximum Strike damage.
- Some Talents synergize with other talents and gear. Experiment to find some interesting ways to gain power! You can respec your talents at any time as long as you are not in combat.
- Red Shroudfanes are not for the faint of heart. (That’s why they only appear after you’ve completed the main story!)
PETER, INTAKE ARTIST
- Blink is a super versatile Control spell in your toolkit. Keep your eyes peeled for a bevy of upgrades that enhance it, and equipment that adds Blink charges or reduces cooldown time.
- Experiment with utilizing your Control spells versus different enemy types. Remember that they can be used independently from your Sigils, so you can toss Limpets and fire off Strike attacks simultaneously.
- Aim for weak points on some larger and tougher enemies like Constructs and Archons.
- Mana Well (a Green Talent) is a great early Talent pick regardless of your preferred Sigil or Fury magic color.
- Keep your ears perked for the sound of flying motes of light and lore items. Both give you bonus Ascension experience points that will help you level up on your journey to becoming a mighty battlemage.
- Blink and Shield are like the PB&J of defensive moves, so look for upgrades that maximize the synergy between the two skills.
- If you time it right, you can use Lash to pull Grenadiers into their own mortars
SUPER, LEAD COMBAT ENGINEER
- Limpets slow enemies giving you more time to target weak points.
- Disrupt causes a powerful Spell Break effect when the enemy is casting, look for the yellow glow on their health meter.
- Spell Break a Red Magnus to prevent them from healing.
- Bash can be aimed down while in the air, allowing you to dive punch targets below you or Bash people on ledges from the air.
ADDITIONAL TIPS
- A Lashed enemy can't retaliate so it's a good defensive option when reloading or your Shield is charging!
-Ada, Senior Engineer - There’s a Blue Talent that restores 20% of your Shield health after using Blink. It works when your shield has been destroyed, too! Check it out!
-Jessica, Art Outsourcing Manager - You can drop enemies off cliffs using Lash and never see them again.
-Gloria, Cinematic Animator

New content, performance improvements, and more coming this month!
Hey Battlemages!
It’s time to sigil up in a big way as all-new challenges are headed to you for Immortals of Aveum™ in The Echollector Update! Battlemages, get ready- you’ll need quick thinking, fast reflexes, and every ounce of your magic for the adventure that lies ahead. Here’s some of what’s coming as part of our largest game update yet:
- New playable content, gear, and lore in the free gameplay content update, “The Echollector”
- Continue the fight for Aveum with New Game+
- Brave the new Grand Magnus difficulty and take on foes like never before
And that’s not all! If you’re new to Immortals of Aveum, you’ll be able to start your journey in the Free Trial* on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S, or the PC demo on Steam.
The Echollector Update (1.0.6.0) will arrive November 16, 2023 for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S and PC along with the console Free Trial. The PC demo will be rolling out to Steam in the second half of November. Be sure to catch up on Immortals of Aveum’s previous updates, including key fixes for DLSS, PC mouse sensitivity, console brightness, the launch of FSR3 on PC and overall performance improvements, all of which can be found here.
Additionally, we’re releasing an update today (1.0.5.5) that provides performance boosts on consoles and PC.
What’s New?
First and foremost, with update 1.0.6.0 comes the new lore and gameplay content for those who’ve reached the final chapters of the game.
“THE ECHOLLECTOR” Content Update is a new endgame objective for players who want more lore and new content to play through once they’ve reached the later chapters. The events of the Everwar left the Path weak, scattering chunks of the consciouscape across Aveum and creating corrupted Shatterfanes - portals to new, undiscovered areas.
Jak must rid Aveum of these Shatterfanes and put a stop to whatever malevolent forces are siphoning away the Path’s power in a new boss fight. The Shatterfanes will automatically be available upon reaching Glaivegate, giving you the chance to take on this new challenge.
Doing so will unlock new lore for you to experience and gear for you to take on your journeys through the Everwar.
NEW GAME+ has been one of the biggest requests we’ve gotten and we’re thrilled to be able to confirm it’s coming. NG+ will not only allow you to play through the game again with most of your abilities and spells, it’ll also give you the opportunity to further upgrade your gear and take on updated fights.
- Upgrade your Epic and Legendary gear to higher levels with the Forge in NG+
- Rebalanced enemy health, damage, and abilities
- Jak carries forward most spells and abilities unlocked in a previous playthrough
- Augment spells cannot carry forward due to their unlock requirements
- Adjustments made to experience and currency earned while playing
GRAND MAGNUS DIFFICULTY brings a whole new level of challenge to Aveum. Face down Sandrakk’s forces like never before in the most challenging mode yet. Every fight will be a battle for survival as you push your way through the Everwar and forge yourself into an Immortal worthy of the name.
And of course, this brand-new difficulty mode is available as a new playthrough or with New Game+!
Sigils Up!
Immortals of Aveum has been a labor of love for the team. We’re glad to get to release an update like this for a project we’ve been so passionate about, and are humbled by the joy it’s brought our players.

We hope all of you who play the game—past, present, and future—can enjoy the new content and changes coming with this update.
Have fun!
