[Old Report] All EA games crashing shortly after start up on Steam

I recently bought EA Play on steam and once I tried playing a few of the listed games, they would crash shortly after start up. Plus it seems to have effected my EA games I bought before I got EA Play.

I've tried making a new local account with no success and reinstalling my graphics drivers, but still no luck...

  • I have X Box Game Pass and inside that Abo is also EA PLay...
    1. I installed Need For Speed Heat on Steam,
    2. Unlinked X Box and EA.
    3. Restarted the EA Launcher and started NFSH on Steam,
    4. It became a Steam linked Game.
    5. I linked X Box Game Pass with EA and all was good.

Hey @Day_404 are you seeing an error message of any kind when this occurs?

The more info we have the better we can help.

I'm getting a DirectX Error stating: "The application's device failed due to badly formed commands sent by the application. This is an design time issue that should be investigated and fixed. Followed by my gpu info and a driver code.

The error you are seeing @Day_404 is one relating to your GPU, the best thing to do is a clean install of your GPU drivers.

You also need to ensure that you:

    • Turn on vsync
    • Perform a clean boot before attemting to play the game
    • Ensure you have power supply capable of meeting the demands of your hardware while it is under heavy gaming load
    • Set all in game graphics settings to low in order to reduce the stress on your GPU.
    • Set the high performance preset in your GPU control panel, as opposed to the high quality preset.
    • Run your video card at stock speeds (memory and core). This is also important for players with factory overclocked cards. This will require some third party software such as EVGA Precision or MSI Afterburner etc.

I've done all you've listed out now the games just crash as soon as they launch, without any error codes.

    Hey @Day_404,

Could you share your DxDiag? Usually when a game instantly closes without an error message, it could be due to the system requirements not being met. I just want to make sure that this isn't the reason why it isn't working for you.

It's also a good idea to make sure that your Windows is up to date, so if you have any pending updates be sure to get them installed.

Also make sure to repair/install your VC++ as described here: https://help.ea.com/en/help/pc/troubleshoot-vc-dll-errors/

It could be that you'll see a 2015 or later version in the vc/redist folders, but that's perfectly fine to execute. Make sure you run both the x86 and the x64 files.

Could you make sure that your games are launched using the 3070?

    1. Go to the NVidia Control Panel (right click on your desktop and it should appear)
    2. Manage 3D settings
    3. Program Settings
    4. Click on Add
    5. Add the game that you want to run with the 3070
    6. Select your 3070 under CUDA - GPUs

Did you also try the other troubleshooting steps that I provided? If so, did anything change?

I did see Dragon Age Inquisition crashing due to aswhook.dll, that can be related to the anti-virus and disabling it should work.

I am also seeing some LiveKernelEvents, does your computer sometimes crash or have a black screen?

As for the DirectX issue, it might be a good idea to raise it with Microsoft to see how you can reinstall or repair DirectX.
