Xbox Gamepass PC linked to a random EA play account

When EA play was added to gamepass for pc and I linked to it, instead of linking to my existing account it created a new random one.
I do not know the email address or password of the new account, I'm automatically logged into it when I open the EA Play app through the Xbox app. All I have is the username.

Other threads I've seen said they solved it by logging into EA with their Xbox credentials and unlinking Live from the random account, but I don't see how to do that. The email used for this account is the same as the email used for my Microsoft account, and it is not the one that's attached to the new random account. Thanks.

This also happened a few months ago, it just never bothered me due to exclusively playing single player games. But now with MP I can't do cross platform games with my friends because this account isn't attached to my gamertag.

  • Dont bother mate, this policy is utterly ridiculous and I'd like an explanation of the rationale behind it from EA.

Effectively, ANY EA account can only ever have 1 Xbox account linked to it (permanently). And any Xbox Game Pass account can only be linked to an EA account every 6 months.

I'm in a similar situation. I pay for Game Pass so I can play FIFA (because theres no way I'm giving EA my money directly). My Gamertag is linked to a 20 year old EA account which does not have my FIFA progression on it from when I had EA Access. If I want to disconnect my gamer tag from that EA account, I cannot put it on a new one for 6 months, and even if that was 6 days, It's impossible to do this at all because my current account had a made up xbox link, so effectively, my main EA account can NEVER have another Xbox account linked to it again. I'm permanently blocked from it.

This is disgusting service from EA. I dont know of a single other game company that prevent you from linking accounts.

  • @McGrinch27 Depending on when you linked you Xbox/Microsoft account to your EA account, this could be a very quick solve without support reach out. You do not need to log into your EA account from the Xbox to unlink it. I actually did this yesterday for myself, for the same reason.

Simply navigate to help.ea.com/en/, and log in using your Xbox account. After being logged in, if you go into your account connections, you'll see the option to unlink your Xbox account from the EA account.

Then, log into your actual EA account and link your Xbox profile to it. I did notice about a 2 hour period during which the GamePass hadn't yet applied to my real EA account.

    Hope this helps.

Of course, reaching out to support should work too.

@EA_Darko Support won't help you and classify your ticket as "no fix available" , because there isn't. I am also an user of Xbox game pass for PC, and today I tried to download an EA Play game via the Xbox app, but I didn't manage to link my Xbox and EA Play because of the "one gamertag for an EA play account for lifetime" *, even tho I am using the same email adress and same nickname on both platform for YEARS. Now I am locked out of connecting my accounts for lifetime and the only way I ever retain my EA games progress is if I subscribe to EA play. Disgusting, rigid and absurd system, since connecting different EA accounts to an Xbox account with a game pass subscription has no benefit, because the user of the Xbox account is already paying for the service.
  • Welcome to the club man.

There are already hundreds of complains about this and no possibility to fix.

No one cares and your post will be closed.

This doesn't work if you used an old, no longer available to you email address because when you go to unlink your account, they send a verification link to the email address that you no longer have access to. (reply to weeabooslayertko)
