Suggestion for retired drivers

Hi guys,

I once said that I was really sad about Lewis Hamilton retiring in my current My Team Career save. However, there is a suggestion that might fix this issue.

After a driver retired from F1, they should still be available in the driver market, but just like the My Team Icons, they should only be available to the player. So if say Sergio Pérez or Nico Hulkenberg retire from F1, they should remain available as free agents that only the player can hire for their team. And just like the My Team Icons and the Braking Point drivers, they should be marked with a symbol, which would also indicate that only the player can use these certain drivers in their team.

Since I am a Lewis Hamilton fan, this would be a very neat addition, as my ultimate goal in every My Team Career is to get Lewis Hamilton into my team and keep him for three or four years. But without this addition, unless EA have a heart and listen to the community once in a century, the only choice I have is to play Driver Career starting at Mercedes.

And not just Hamilton fans can profit from an addition like this - there can also be Pérez, Alonso, Hulkenberg and Bottas fans who could potentially get their favorite driver into their team once they retired from F1.

Let's hope for the best.

Good day,

Nico

  • My personal idea would that they be available in the market but there would initially be a randomized 1 to 3 season resting period (they'd be present but unsignable) to simulate the retirement.

It's a shame the game doesn't have more of a contract system, because there could be the potential for having to try and tempt the driver out of retirement with contract terms.

@s00zster So you're saying that they take a break from F1 for 1 to 3 seasons and then make a comeback, similar to Fernando Alonso?

That sounds good too. But with the current contract system, I think my method would be easier to integrate.

Not really, they'd stay in the market but be greyed out and you could code a basic random 1 to 3 season timer, so when a season ticks over that would trigger the driver to become available again. Could allow other teams to sign them too, but there would be a good amount of time after they appear to allow you to sign them first. If you don't happen to be following them (I haven't played MyTeam for ages so I can't remember if there's a Shortlist feature, if not there should be) then it's a surprise when after 1 to 3 seasons, they suddenly come back with another team.

Or there could be a chance they could still never come back at all. They need to go deeper with this stuff, code in ages - the older the driver is, the more likely they're not going to come back if they retire. But sadly, I can't see that happening. The game is unfortunately pretty basic, just enough to scratch an itch and nothing more. It leaves you wanting more but can't provide it.
