Some kerbs too easy.
COTA T3, T4 very easy to go over the kerbs.
From my point of view it is more realistic because we can now feel when the car will spin, and the traction is more "controllable" with an upshift.
The IA qualification lap times an difficulty are more realistic too, (No more gap between race and qualification ) For example qualified 8 finished 7 on Bahrain. On the 22 version if you are qualified 8 you can easily finish 1st. The IA was too strong in qualification , not this year and this s very enjoyable.
The video below that @ScarDuck14 posted in another thread includes some comments on how the game has been made more realistic. Over the last 2-3 years it's become increasingly clear that whenever anyone with real experience driving F1 cars tries the recent games the standout difference they've highlighted was traction being more difficult in the game so it's really good to see this has been addressed.
As has been pointed out though, whilst traction is improved there is still a limit so this doesn't inherently make the game 'easy'. My own (lack of) skill still means I'm far too capable of ending up with my car pointing in the wrong direction anyway!

Unless anyone here has actually driven an F1 car, it's hard to say what is realistic, but going off some experience driving some high performance sports cars and 10 years of Sim racing, I'm a little surprised how easy the traction feels in F1 23 with full no-assists.
The handling model has been highly praised by reviewers, but I do wonder if today's generation of gamers just prefer an easy ride rather than having to work for something.
F1 22 did admittedly feel a little random with grip levels, but i feel like 23 has swung right to the other end of the spectrum with many corners that you had to modulate the throttle and balance traction in 22 being completely flat in 23.
Maggots & Becketts is almost completely flat now, which is a little disappointing! I feel like much of the challenge has been removed.
- cearp88582 years agoRising Hotshot@SDGMatt You have had lando norris say that real f1 cars were easier to drive than the f1 games were and that using medium traction control was more realistic, this was said i believe during covid lockdowns when all you had a few drivers playing he game alot
Just because the game is “easy” doesnt mean it is wrong.
Iracing version of the w13 drives somewhat similar to how f1 23 drives in terms of traction and more realistic gear selection for corners.
As David Greco has also said it might be easy to drive but is it easy to go fast? Esports drivers will always be a lot faster than me i did a 1:12.2 at spain in tt with a lap i felt was really good and i check the leaderboard to see esports guys doing 1:10’s 😂 - Darthsausage442 years agoRising Veteran
Can’t comment on more ralistic having not driven a real f1 car but as others have said those that should know say it is so happy with that. What I can comment on is It’s more enjoyable. and that’s ok with me. If it’s too easy turn up your distance, AI level, failure and damage settings. If it’s too easy maxed out then I’d say you’d be better off with i racing or some such
It is easier than 22 in some respects so I’ve turned my ai up by 10 for this years game.
Harder to drive does not equal more realistic.
This has been an issue in racing games forever among those who subscribe to the idea that if it's not borderline impossible to drive the cars then it's not realistic.
When anyone who does actually race cars immediately comes in and says hey this is not like real life. Hell it's the same in something as hardcore sim focused as iracing with many drivers pointing out the tire feel and tire wear is absurd compared to real life.
You get it in GT3 racing online where people are so insistent on not using TC or ABS when the real cars use TC and ABS they want it to feel the same while not using 'assists' cos that's for kids of course even though the real cars use these things...
Making things impossible is not making them more realistic.

I agree for the most part but this little nugget here can easily spiral into a misrepresenting what some sensible voices say in the simracing scene.
I can only speak for ACC and iRacing, and people like that, saying that TC and ABS are for little kids and true drivers shouldn't use them, will get downvoted or kicked into oblivion. That's ridiculous, specially with the level of electronics these cars have.
However, the best practice still is to use as low of an aid as possible, and as little of an intervention as you can cope with. Meaning still modulating the brakes and minding your throttle application, and using low level of electronics as to not cut down on your braking or throttle input as much. The driver shouldn't been leaning into those assists.
So when someone pops up looking for advice on their lap and you can see that they basically treat their inputs as binary – either 0% or 100% braking/throttle – you'll see someone chiming in to suggest learning proper footwork and not relying as much on those assists as a way to get faster.
That said, yep. An easier car to drive does not necessarily mean an arcadey experience. A car that is easier to keep on track will not put you close to world records any time soon, and by all accounts I've officially and unofficially received (🙂), F1 23 does set the bar closer to the real feel of the car.
- @timinator2014 Setting throttle saturation to 28 makes it very close to iRacing's W13. That way I can go back and forth the two sims and feel the cars pretty much the same. F1 23 is still way too understeery, it appears as if downforce has no effect in the front of the car and in slow speed corners it just doesn't bite. Also fixed this by adding a bit of saturation to wheel

Personally speaking, I'm really enjoying it this year. I'm not an alien racer, I'm very average (70 AI with a wheel this year). I've been playing the Codemasters F1 games since 2012 and this is the first time since 2017 that I've been able to race in the rain, on a wheel, without assists and enjoy it. It's not easy, though. Still tensed up, trying not to spin out, but I can do lap after lap and keep the car on the track if I'm careful, much like watching the lads in qualifying at Canada last weekend.
Considering that I haven't been able to experience wet racing like this with a wheel since 2017 (fond memories of a wet to dry race at Melbourne are what comes to mind, a very similar driving experience to F1 23), I think is an indicator of where the blurring between realism, difficulty and enjoyment went wrong afterwards. Remember, people who'd played F1 games and then tried the iRacing Mercedes and couldn't believe how relatively easy it was to drive. And as someone previously in the thread said, realism doesn't necessarily mean harder. For what I've experienced with F1 23, I think it's bang on perfect. Great fun. Please don't change it.
