@lufc100 Gran Turismo is more targeted at a hardcore sim audience though. F1 is simcade with heavy emphasis on the cade part.
The average consumer for EA/CM just wants to pick a up a controller and go wheel to wheel with Verstappen, Hamilton, LeClerc and the gang for an evening. VR isn’t going to be a selling point to them like it was to the GT crowd.
I would disagree that GT is targeting the hardcore sim racing crowd, as its long been pitched pretty much to the broader car culture fandom. Its been derided by the hardcore PC based sim users as too arcade. It offers a large range of car related themes besides competition - history, collecting, photo, liveries, customization. From a sim perspective the title has improved, and force feedback has improved a lot (and now much better than F1 IMO), there’s still a big (and competitive) pad player base as well.
But the VR implentation moves it up massively - the modeling of the cars and tracks greatly adds to both immersion and the driving experience. Tracks in flat view I didn’t like or do well on changed for me dramatially when running in VR.
Cost wise yes, the entry point is high, but the total $1200 investment is still competitive with the PC options if you don’t have a gaming PC, and a lot less hassle.
I would love to have F1 support PSVR, but agree that CM has other pressing priorities to spend money on (hopefully more wisely than recently).
But my decision to spend a few casual hours driving doesn’t go very often to F1 2X, in spite of being a longtime follower, and some of that is due to the immersion while driving in VR.
If the money was there I think the VR option on PS5 would add positively to the perception of the title, and would certainly increase the time I’d spend w it
