@Nellix82 I would also like to have 75% race distances and since they were able to add 35% races (last year?) I don't see why they can't do 75% which makes more sense then having 35% anyway because the difference between 25 and 50 wasn't that significant to begin with.

As far as dynamic temperatures and asphalt graining go... yea the technology for that is still a ways out there, and it has nothing to do with the EGO engine vs Unreal. To get truly dynamic temperatures you would basically have to be Ray-Tracing the Sun down across entire course which would require massive graphical power just on its own. Call me when the PS8 comes out lol

@Nellix82 Hmm interesting, I guess they could still be using rasterization to determine asphalt temperatures. It wouldn't be 100% true to life accurate but it would certainly be a step up from what we have in F1 series. Sorry, I jumped to a conclusion on that one, I'll have to look into that one more and see what tech they've got going on behind the scenes.

For the race distances, scaling Tyre deg to a certain distance shouldn't be an issue, it's just a matter of if they want to code the AI to understand the potential tyre strategies based on that distance. In this case it was just much easier to slip 35 in because there's very little difference between 25 and 35. Been a while since I've a run 35%er but if I recall most cars basically just go an extra 1 or 2 laps on soft and then like 3ish more laps on the medium/hard. 75% would probably bring 2-stoppers in to play which is why they avoid trying to tackle it.

Didn't have a lot of spare time today so could only spare a quick search but it doesn't seem as sophisticated as either of us might have thought. Track temp appears tied to time of day, which might work of endurance racing, but would be hard to apply to 1 1/2-hour F1 races. I know the pit pox telemetry will show temperature changes but that's usually just a sign of rain coming or going.

I'm not an expert coder by any means, but the best way to implement something semi-realistic without blowing out everyone's GPU would be to divide the track up into say 10 parts and then basically created a rasterized version of raytracing to determine how much light(heat) each section of the track was getting which would generate a tyre wear multiplier for that segment of track. driving smoothly over a high multiplier segment of the track would obviously result in lower wear than driving recklessly over that same segment.

Obviously this isn't completely "dynamic", but I also don't think it's unreasonable given today's hardware capabilities.

For those who know me its no surprise that i absolutely agree with more temperatures, tyre, asphalt, air and engine temps are essential for performance changes week in week out and throughout a race - as seen at Bahrain this year once more.

However implementing proper systems to emulate true dynamics isnt really difficult yet its quite some work to set up right to start, sun ray tracing is IMO on the level of accuracy that we would require to emulate each little screw, each piston, everything in the engine. While yes it would make it way more realistic itstoo much effort for too little gain compared to a system like i already suggested half a year ago or so..

Based on average temps and temp ranges for certain cloud amounts, time of day and season you can work out a dynamic temperature system where the game will set the temperatures and let them develop throughout a session based on the previously said conditions. For example:

Bahrain, midday, in april, clear sky: track temps range from 30°-55° depending on the sun intensity etc. so in mid to late april for example it would usually be a bit warmer so the game would decide the track could start at between 40°-55° and depending on how many clouds gather throughout the session and how late it gets (lower sun intensity) the track temps fall a bit further, usually something around 5° with steady conditions is normal, with lots of clouds gathering this could extent to ~10° lower track temps, if the sun sets this could mean another up to another 5° less track temps.

So if it would be a long pre season test sessions starting at 2pm (just hypothetical set in april) it could start at like 50°, clouds gather as 2 hours go by and the track temps fall by 11° gradually, then the sun sets and it falls by another 3° and would be at 36° at like 5pm however in the morning it could be the other way around.

The temps could develop "freely" throughout session, depending on the changes in conditions under certain pre set parameters so its not going crazy ways but has a natural feeling development, even under same conditions temps can rise and fall by a few degree.

In regards of different parts of the track, the major parts matter, so a tiny spot in the shadow would not matter but big parts in the shadow should probably get the same treatment as if it would be very cloudy. Should be a similar treatment for different spots of the track having different amounts of grip, so the technology is already there it would only require the work for the game to know how the temps may develop under what conditions. Together with properly replicated tyre and engine temps and their effects this would make the performances a lot more dynamic

@Nellix82Thats what i suggested? (maybe too long complicated sentences again😅) Just by using simplified means instead of a 100% simulation but still resulting in way more dynamics than it currently has.

Like changing weather and time throughout the session is already in the game it just needs more severe (yet still realistic) changes to air and track temps which in turn affect engines and tyres (in theory aero too but thats going for the 100% in depth again and would prove quite a challenge to train the ai to)
