Option to remove steering wheel!

Please will you finally give us an option to remove the steering wheel from the in game dash.

Many of us are using steering wheels with built in displays, isn't it long overdue that you recognise this and allow the in game wheel to be removed, instead of just choosing between moving or static?

  • Not 100% positive, but it's probably a licensing issue. Take McLaren for instance and the Logitech logo on the top of their steering wheel. Logitech would probably be less than thrilled if players could just remove their logo from the game at will. And then you have the issue of what to do with the drivers' hands and arms. I presume you would want those gone for the same reason to then, well there go a half dozen more sponsor logos.

I'm not against removing the steering wheel by any means, because I can completely see the why you would want it gone, I'm just saying I think the Dev's hands are tied a bit on this one.

Ah, the old 'can't do it due to licencing' excuse. Always a good card to play, it saves them a lot of work every time.

@antonmorse They'll still be using it in 2040 because it be just as true then as it is now, not really anyway around it I'm afraid unless EA, the FIA, the FOM, and the Formula One Teams all magically decide they no longer like money.

I understand that, but it's far too easy to use as a reason for not including a feature or allowing cars to crash or have mechanical failure.

Other sims manage to include these options, and they have to go through the same licencing negotiations.

@antonmorse Can I inquire which other sim racers you are referring to that allow the steering wheel to be removed?

Regarding crashing and mechanical failures, both are included in the F1 series so I'm not sure where you are going with that. They even added the option for player cars to have mechanical failures a few years back.

I can't remember them all, but off the top of my head, definitely AMS 1, AMS2, Project Cars 1 & 2, & Assetto Corsa. In other words most of them except the F1 games.

I was merely giving examples of times that 'licencing' has been used in the past  as an excuse for lack of damage or mechanical failure in some race sims.

But my point in this post is about the steering wheel, and the point stands - Codemasters games are one of the very few that do not allow it.

@antonmorse That's a whole different kettle of fish though. With those game their mostly licensing individual cars that may not even have preset liveries with attached logos/marketing. And even if they do the devs can dictate terms, do you want your car in the game or not.

With Formula 1 CM/ EA don't get to run the show. The FIA, FOM, and FOTA are calling the shots and if they say the wheels stay because they don't want to lose out on a sponsorship bonus then the wheels stay.

If you refer back to one of my original messages I'm not against having an option to remove the steering wheel, I'm just trying to set expectations as to why it's unlikely to happen in the F1 series.

@TheRagebeard Thanks but I don't need my expectations managing, I'm able to manage them myself. My post was a request to DEVS in case they should look in, to please consider my request for this option. Enough said.
