i had the same issue, but i figured it out. If you try to set it in time trial (and maybe some other modes) there is no way to change the filters and whatever you set there will not save and not work. But if you go for example to single player grand prix race and go to OSD customization there, now you can switch between the filters so you can change the HUD for practice, for qualy, for race, time trial etc and if you save it it will save and work.

Yes but that is a workaround and most probably not an intentional one! They should fix the bug and offer this functionality the proper way. I mean another thing I noticed in My Career mode, the OSD is as I want during race and not saving (it's back to default) in practice and qualifying
