As a player who always drives without assists I can assure you that you will never be as fast as those who play with all assists on, because they don't have to drive themselves, it's the AI that does the work. They only have to steer and keep the throttle on the floor. So don't worry about skill or winning. Just enjoy driving yourself, find in multiplayer a host with assists off, or do what I do: host yourself a session. Nice to know there are still players willing to learn to drive without assists.
