Bahrain strategy 100% race distance
Hello everybody,
for once I would like to share some "game played" as a driver / team manager regarding the race strategies, at the moment I am really in doubt about what to do.
Just to frame the situation I run in GP mode, 100% length, AI 100 (opening race in Bahrain). In qualifying I saved two sets of new (S) tyres and I will start in P3. Maybe I could do P2 using an extra set of new tyres in Q3 but it doesn't change much and I preferred the race anyway. In reality, however, the simulation of the race strategy proposed by the game is very much in the balance between S-S-M and M-H:
besides my calculations, based on my real race pace, are still (slightly) more oriented towards M-H strategy:
Considering the strategies in a more or less equivalent way, we go to the doubts about the choice to make:
S-S-M
PRO
- Better start, I could hold the position and try to keep Verstappen's pace ahead of me (even if according to my pace tests it's not obvious)
CON
- I should overtake on the track and I have less top speed than the AI, I could struggle
M-H
PRO
- Even if I had a difficult start, my race pace could be similar to those of the "second group", I could take advantage of the DRS and save the ERS for the second phase of the race.
- One pit stop only: phase in which I usually always lose something compared to the AI, probably in finding the rhythm with a new tire
- Track position: I could be ahead after the pit stop
CON
- Difficult start, I could lose positions and above all time struggling in the economy of the entire race
- Hard tyres to warm up after the pit stop, I could lose a lot of time not expected or calculated in the simulations
- if the AI reaches me in the final it is almost impossible to defend myself, I have less top speed
Anyone wishing to participate in the discussion with advice, ideas, considerations is welcome, even just once to "play" with our game 🙂
Thank you and have a nice sunday,
Nuv
