There's certainly a big change in the handling and feel of the cars this year. I don't want to say they're impossible to drive with a controller just yet, but it will take some time getting used to the differences in handling between 21 and 22. However in my limited experience this morning yes, the cars feel heavier and a bit less responsive with steering input, but at the same time in a high speed sweeping turn the back end is light as a feather and around you go in no time. They certainly don't feel like F1 cars to me. Maybe I just haven't gotten used to feathering the throttle and steering yet and I'm still driving like F1 21, but i think if people thought the cars and curbs were slippery in 21, they certainly won't like the handling in 22. I've go to play with settings still but I copied over my controller settings from 21 and put them into 22 this morning so I'm driving the same settings as last year and certainly the cars feel different which isn't a bad thing necessarily.
I don't think you're experiencing a lack of controller response though, I think you're just experiencing the difference in the weight and handling of the new cars/handling mode in the game and they designed it this way. I remember reading/listening to the early hype videos talking about this, and the new heavy feeling to the cars with steering etc. I dont know; I've never driven an F1 car obviously, but the heaviness sure doesn't feel like it's replicating the cars we watch on Sundays. I just don't think it's a controller issue but it's just the new handling system that we have to get used to.
All I know is I didn't get the feeling I was driving an F1 car, it felt more like I was driving a car that was heavy; didn't want to steer, and had almost no grip under power at low, or high speed. I'm sure I have adjustments to make in my driving style now for the new game, but I can't help but wonder how this is a step in the right direction. Too early to make any final comments/complaints though for me; just saying what I felt in limited time this morning. So for those ready to pounce on this as crying/whining or a complaint... calm down. That's not my point here; just stating what I felt in early drives.

FYI; as noted above here's the video I was referring to about the handling changes; and I think this is primarily what we're feeling. Well covered also in the "David Greco's andling, driving and setup Q&A" thread.

There's alot here that's changed in the game with respect to handling. Greco comes in around the 3:30 mark to talk about the changes. Again; I'm not sure it's a controller issue but it's the new car handling model that's been created that you're experiencing
@petro1319I think maybe you didn't understand what I said. I said this feeling was already there in F1 2021, you know, last generation cars. And it wasn't there in F1 2020, where the cars weren't all that different from 2021.
I'm specifically talking about when the wheel is straight and you want to move it, even if just slightly. It almost feels like there's a delay but it's not, it's super STUCK and for this reason it feels super heavy. Like I said in the main post, it's like there is a huge dead zone and I can't do anything about it. It's not a problem of the "new" handling physics.- DukeOfAntwerp3 years agoSeasoned Hotshot
@PredatorIsBadI have to agree with petro1319 as I don't recognise the issue for F1 2021. I think I do recognise this in F1 22.
What is your hardware? What controller? - SASColfer3 years agoSeasoned Scout
Yeah I noticed this straight away. It seems so heavy in the centre position and makes it a nightmare to change direction quickly. A must fix.
- @DukeOfAntwerp Dualshock 4. Less than a year old. Not even drifting. Played F1 consecutively from 2016 to 2020 and this feeling wasn't there. I wasn't the only one feeling this last year too on the forums.

I think it's designed that way, especially at higher speed. IF you listen to Greco in that video he talks about the increased downforce and weight effects above certain speeds. That's going to create that feeling that your car is stuck and unresponsive at first IMO.
No petro is completely wrong, there is indeed a huge deadzone in the center.
It is not related to the physics, it is visible on the front tires steering angle as well.
When you try to steer to the left you can see the tires not steering for like 0.1s
I come from f1 2020 and f1 2019 and didn't have this problem before.
I totally agree with this topic there is and that is the reason for the traction loss in corners. If your is a car exiting a corner pedal to floor and you abruptly yanked the wheel left or right, of course traction will break and this IS the reason on pad why tracton is so hard to control, not to mention being precise with positioning your car.
Scarduck suggestion of increasing the wheel rotation in the pads vibration setting helps this a bit. I use around 480, it does feel better on pad but there's still that feel of a huge dead zone that the angle just changes as you can see on the front wheels!
Glad I wasn't alone. F121 did not suffer with this.

@Dan78lokiI’m not getting this on dual sense. Was the reason I increased rotation to reduce steering angle.
All my calibration settings are default
My ffb settings are
FFB 65 or 75
On track 35
Rumbles 25
Off track 20
Wheels 10
Enhanced understeer off (before anyone suggests wheel dampening and enhanced understeer only effects wheels..: both my settings are exactly what the legend himself @BarryBL recommended Miss you dude and steel waiting for the meta)
Rotation anywhere from 390 - 450 Depending on track.
Triggers set to off im finding impressed travel so helps braking and accelerating
