I've got exactly the same problem - really pushing my buttons. Especially given you cant buy concept players directly and you have to go to the transfer market, and I have to restart my game like 3 times for each player because my controller stops interacting.
I have had an issue on Xbox where I came out for the 2nd half of a game and my controller would not register any button presses yet opponent was running around with ball.
This is with me using my controller with a cable and not batteries. A little concerning.
