Game freezing then speeding up multiple times

It seems that many online players have this problem. Frankly, my FC24 is unplayable as the game freezes pretty much with every pass and speeds up afterwards. My network is fine on other devices and my PS5 doesn't have a problem with other games. FC24 programming is the problem. It is broken. I know you don't care about online players because you don't get incremental payments out of them but it will show in EA25 sales unless you fix this. I certainly won't be wasting my money in September.

Do you mean a signal booster? If so, it sounds like you're on a wireless connection. What you're experiencing is extremely common with wireless connections. Can you switch to a wire instead?

Streaming uses a buffer so if there is packet loss, it's not noticed unless your connection goes out for more than several seconds. A game like FC requires a stable connection that wireless has a hard time supporting.

  • There’s a server booster here 2 meters from my PS5. The only problem I have on any part of my network is with this game. Streaming on other platforms? No problem. Streaming with our chat? No problem. I’m done with EA.

  • What? The game doesn’t support Wi-Fi? So how many of the “millions” of people you referred to playing EA24 use dial-up?

Many of them use wireless just fine. There's a lot of different variables that make for a stable connection. However, even the most perfect wireless connection is not going to be as stable as using a wire. Some things you need to consider that will have an effect on wireless gaming:

    • The amount of bandwidth all your devices are using
    • If you're on a 5g connection vs 2.4g
    • The distance from the router to your PS5
    • Having walls and floors in between
    • The quality of your router
    • Whether or not wireless gaming features are enabled on the router

You're also welcome to do your own research on wireless vs wired when it comes to gaming. Games like FC are sending a lot of data back and forth. If your connection isn't strong enough, not all of that data is going to make it through. Which is why you experience speed up lag. Packets are being sent, but not all of them are making it. That lost data can't be used to keep your game running smoothly. This is just the nature of wireless internet. It's not meant to be used for competitive gaming. That will improve over time. Especially as consoles start using WiFi 6, but the PS5 and Xbox Series X systems do not support this.

My advice is to use a wired connection or get a powerline adaptor. I have a couple of those myself and have not had the issues you would normally have using a wireless connection. If a wireless connection is required, make sure it's on a 5g signal. Most modern routers support both 2.4 and 5g.

  • Alright. I can see I’m getting nowhere here. No other games, systems or devices have a problem with my wireless set up apart from FC24.

You should try to go wired it would even help improve your connection in other games. You might not even notice it in other games but you won’t have as good of a connection. Almost every game tech support will suggest you run wired if you can.
