Is the DNF "threat" damaging your mental health?

I would like to argue that the DNF "threat" when you want to leave matches where you're clearly losing to a better opponent is:

a) unethical, and
b) a danger to players' mental health.

Yesterday, my 8-year-old son was crying while playing a Rivals match because he felt he couldn't leave, even though he was getting beat 6-0 by half-time. And when I play Rivals/Champs, I can feel that frustration too when I'm clearly losing to a better opponent – but I don't feel I can quit because the DNF modifier punishes me by reducing my rewards in the future.

I accept the loss, I accept that I don't get any coins from the match, but this threat of further punishment in the future makes me feel trapped into playing the entire match.

This is simply damaging our collective mental health and taking the fun out of the game.

I would like to suggest that the DNF threat NOT be applied if:

a) you have reached half-time
b) you are losing by 3 or more goals

And from my experience, players who are clearly better don't want to play an entire 90 minutes either. They want the win so that they can move on to the next game.

So please, EA Sports, for the sake of ours and our children's mental health, adjust your DNF policy so that we can leave matches where we're clearly being beaten.

    Dear Barry,

Thanks for the information. We play on PS5, and my son isn't allowed to chat with others.

But the issue is more one of how the DNF policy encourages players to continue playing matches that they are clearly losing - to the detriment of their mental health.

Does EA Sports have any plans to make changes to the DNF policy?

@scumbagshawty For casual gamers who don't play very often, the coins make a difference. And it's the principle. Why punish players even more for quiting matches where they're clearly losing to a better player?

@bradpixel I mean I guess it’s a couple hundred coins for match which shouldn’t make much of a difference. You can also improve your DNF% over time. You can stop pushing for promotion and play people at lower divisions which should reduce the amount of games where you’re getting completely blown out.
