Player switching problem

Uhm, anybody able (and willing 😬) to give me some help in understanding how to set the player selection in the game?
I put automatic, high level of assistance, “ various criteria” for the choice of the next player and despite that I ALWAYS need at least 4-5 R1 before the “right” player is selected. Super annoying is even the fact the game is always overriding my choice literally 1 nanosecond after I changed the controlled player.
Any tips for me? The player selection has always worked very badly but this year is prob the worst I can remember since many years…
