Rewrite your game's netcode
I have had the absolute worst online experience ever in my entire life with FC 24 on PS5. I have, over the course of my life, played Counter-Strike (since 2004), Day of Defeat, World of Warcraft (since 2007), Battlefield, Call of Duty, Warcraft, StarCraft, Brink, Quake, Grand Theft Auto Online.. I have never, ever, experienced such consistently delayed online gameplay in an online game. Considering it is only a two player game on a very small arena with less graphics than any of the games I just listed, that just blows my mind.
FC 24 takes the cake. Every single online game I have lag. It's 0.5s to 2s with every command I issue to my players. And it's clear as day because if I play a Squad Battle locally, it works fine. All players are sharp as a knife. Even better if I just go play career mode for a bit. Go online to a Rivals match, a Champions match or a Friendly and boom. Every single command I issue there is a 0.5-2s delay. My players are sluggish, they start their sprinting late, they pass late, they can't dribble past an opponent and I am absolutely certain it is not my internet.
My internet connection has gone down perhaps twice, and only for an hour max, in the span of 10 years. It is solid. Every game I can see I have 15-18ms, steady, network delay.
It is your netcode. For the love of god, rewrite that portion of the game right now. You seem to be running the same piece of code that you did a decade ago while the rest of the game titles have kept improving theirs. Fighting and RTS games seem to be doing a great job at this.
We used to do 40 man raids in World of Warcraft instances 15 years ago and we NEVER experienced any lag issues. We have never failed because there was lag in the game. Counter-Strike players would lose their minds if there was such delay. Professional StarCraft 2 players hit 300-400 keystrokes a minute and nobody ever complained about lag there.
Yet, in FC 24, it is a constant element of gameplay.
It is absolutely horrible how you treat your customer base. Do any of you even test your own gameplay? Because it feels like you have no quality assurance department in game development based on the content you release, that is clearly filled with bugs. As a software developer myself, I can tell you are not doing a good job with customer feedback to improve the game.
This is such a prevalent problem amongst all players, be it professionals, content creators or casuals, that it just doesn't register with me how this issue is not being dealt with?! I have my suspicions but please prove me wrong!
