Unable to Play Online Friendlies with Existing Friend, games previously played

Steps: How can we find the bug ourselves? Inviting a friend to an online friendly match results in a pop up message saying that the match is unavailable. He's using an Xbox Series X, I'm using Series S, but we've already played 14 games together via Online Friendlies in FC 24. I recently changed my gamertag, when trying to invite my friend, or when he tries to invite me, we now get that message. Is it possible that the updated gamertag is causing this? We're still friends through EA / FC 24.
What happens when the bug occurs? "Match is Unavailable", screen returns to Online Friendlies / displaying which friends are online. I invite my friend from the list and the message pops up again, returns me to the same Online Friendlies screen.
What should be happening instead? I should be able to invite my friend or he should be able to invite me, we should end up in a match.
