Please help with advice

I'm trying to get better at this very frustrating game and would like some help with a few things that are really confusing.

It seems the new tactics that most people are doing now is running down the line and crossing the ball into the box.

EVERY time my opponents do it the cross goes DIRECTLY to one of his players heads or feet for an easy volley and my AI defenders don't even contend for the ball.  If I try to defend the cross with button A or B it usually gives away a penalty.

When I try the same tactic my crosses hardly ever go to my players and my opponent easily intercepts the ball.

Can anyone please tell me how I get my crosses to go directly to my players and how I can defend my opponents crosses?

    @GSM350  It helps if your player has the Whipped Pass playstyle or playstyle+ even better.

    Best place to cross the ball from is on the left or right side of the penalty area close to the box like where the lines are on the pitch of the penalty area.

    The best crosses are L1/LT at least 3 bars power or more, aiming for the player on the other side of the area or you can use L2/LT aiming for a player in the box about 2 bars power this works best if you cross to a player at the far post.

    There are other crosses too but the ones I mentioned work for me way more than anything else.

    When defending make sure you have in your game settings: Auto Switching set to Air Balls and Loose Balls. This will make the AI switch to the defender closest to where the cross is going so you can then clear it before your opponent gets there. Use X or Square button to head it clear.

    Your players both attacking and defending can have Playstyles that affect heading - Aerial and Power Header and also Acrobatic can boost your chances of clearing and scoring too.

    @SumFiiin  Thank you, I will try and give it a go.  Think I need to concentrate on playstyles as I haven't really been choosing players that have them.
