It lowers the overall team rating - People think it will get them easier games by matching them with people with similar team ratings.
Its all placebo and does nothing in reality.

Well it does seem to work for him doesn't it LOL... his icon-filled squad was matchmade against my inferior team and his icons simply overpowered me...
