MARZEC STILL WON'T OPEN UP ABOUT AJAX FUTURE
Amsterdam, 01 DEC 2026 | On a difficult icey pitch in Zwolle, an Ajax B-team secured its 15th win (4-1) from as many Eredivisie league games this is season. Nothing new there, one might think. But it was for the first time, that for at least a third of a game we saw what an Ajax without its key standout players was able to to. Or: what next season's Ajax would look like.
After an hour, Ajax most valuable players Jorrel Hato, Kenneth Taylor and Brian Brobbey were done for the day. Also, manager Daniel Marzec gave defenders Beijmo, Sandler and Sosa, shadow striker Aboukhlal and wingers Kaio and Danjuma some recovery time in the run-up to the cup game against PSV.
In those 30 minutes, both sides managed to score once. Ajax was dominant in possession and upcoming talent Julian Rijkhoff needed only a few minutes (again) to score a goal: so far, so good. But the Amsterdam side appeared vulnerable at the back. Where the defensive line allowed only 0,5 goals per game until now, PEC Zwolle were clear to have a go at the Ajax goal, three times in 30 minutes.
So, whomever the manager will be next season will need to work on that. Because Daniel Marzec still has not given any clarity on his future. When the manager announced that veteran goalkeeper Marco Bizot (36) had extended his ending contract with another year (until 2028), reporters jumped at the chance to ask the manager about his possible extension.
Marzec remained somewhat vague: "It would be nice to build a completely new team. But wouldn't that be the case, no matter what I do next summer? If I remain here I'll have to build a new team. If I go somewhere else, I'll have to build a new team. The only scenario where I won't have to build anything, is when I remain at home for a sabbatical. I'd probably be writing a book then. But whatever it will be, I'll make sure you people will be the first to know."
